Akshay lights ‘The Flame Of Hope’

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
The star with the Midas touch at the box office, Akshay Kumar is also the brand ambassador for Special Olympics. He was in Delhi along with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit who opened the five-day-long games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. Akshay Kumar accompanied with a special athlete lit the ‘Flame Of Hope’. The Special Olympics called 'Bharat' (India), is aimed at reaching the physically and mentally challenged through the world of sports. The aim of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities by giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Special Olympics, an international organization founded by Eunice Kennedy Shriver in 1968 provides people with intellectual disabilities opportunities to realize their potential and promotes them to grow and develop. Today, it is the largest sports movement for the differently-abled. Recognized by the International Olympics Committee, more than a million athletes are today part of the unique movement.
Akshay Kumar is the goodwill ambassador for the Special Olympics in a bid to spread awareness about the event in which 60,000 athletes will participate. Akshay takes his job and responsibility very seriously. On the occasion, Akshay Kumar said, 'We should treat them equal and they should deserve the same respect, fame and adulation like any other normal athletes.'
Akshay Kumar’s new mission these days is to 'bring a smile on the faces of children who are deprived of sunshine. He had earlier appealed to the media to write about the mentally challenged. 'There's nothing shameful about being psychologically challenged. Such people need to live their lives normally. Because they're normal people. 'There're 30 million mentally challenged people in India. Of these 95 percent live their lives in anonymity. Their own parents and families treat them as shameful secrets. That's so wrong.'

Shah Rukh's daughter in film?

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
Filmmaker Karan Johar quashes all rumours regarding Shah Rukh Khan's baby-girl Suhana making an appearance with her father in his film "Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna".
Karan dismisses the rumour as "utter rubbish... this doesn't even warrant a response".
Karan is in New York filming "Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna".
"Can't they leave them alone?" is the angry response of one of Shah Rukh's favourite co-stars on location in New York for the film.
The protective co-star further adds, "Everything about Shah Rukh, from his doing a soap ad to his not doing a television soap, makes news. And when there's no news coming from New York, people in Mumbai are manufacturing 'taza khabar'.
"We've heard there's relentless stress out here in New York, that the actors are squabbling among themselves. Oh yeah? Perhaps people back home are better informed than us. The best one is about Shah Rukh's daughter being in the film. Please, tell them to back off."
So where and how did this rumour begin?
Shah Rukh's son Aryan had made an appearance in Karan Johar's directorial debut "Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham". Perhaps, the rumour was an extension of the earlier familial occurrence.
Celebrities allowing their kids to be seen in films aren't entirely unknown. Recently, Arshad Warsi's son Zeke made a walk-on or shall we say, toddle-on appearance in "Salaam Namaste". But that's it.
As a rule celebrities from showbiz like to keep their progenies as far away from the cameras as possible.

Aishwarya's Hottest 3 Projects (News)

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
Ash drops Santoshi's 'Saamna'
Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai has opted out of Raj Kumar Santoshi's "Saamna", but is very much part of his other film "Prithviraj-Sanjukta".
"Dates," bemoans Santoshi, the self-confessed Aishwarya admirer.
"They're the culprits. Otherwise Aishwarya would've very much been a part of my next film "Saamna" which I start shooting in January," sighs Santoshi.
With Ash's choc-a-block dates taking her from Sanjay Gadhvi's "Dhoom 2" to J.P. Dutta's "Umrao Jaan" (which she's just gone to Rajasthan to shoot), there seems little likelihood of her being free to do Santoshi's hard-hitting political drama, which stars Ajay Devgan, Akshay Kumar and Nana Patekar.
"I'll have to regretfully start looking for another leading lady in 'Saamna'. It will have to be someone of Aishwarya's stature. And that's not easy to find."
But Santoshi is sure to work with his favourite actress very shortly. "Aishwarya has a carte-blanche. She can tell me to start a film any time. I'll feature her in anything she wants."
Hasn't he decided to drop her from his prestigious project "Prithviraj-Sanjuka"?
"Not true at all! Aishwarya is very much on for that project. The only thing is - would she want do one more costume drama after 'Umrao Jaan', 'Jodha-Akbar' and 'Jhansi Ki Rani'?
"It's entirely up to her. But why are we talking about 'Prithviraj-Sanjukta' now? I don't intend to go into that project until 2008. I'd be delighted to have her in all my films."
The director is shocked that he has been quoted as saying Aishwarya is too old for the 'swayamvar' (a ceremony where a woman can chose a husband from amongst many suitors) sequence in "Prithviraj-Sanjukta".
"I'd be the last person to talk like that. She is not only a dear friend, but also one of the most beautiful and finest actresses we have. There's nothing that she can't do. As of now Aishwarya is my Sanjukta."
Ash in Jaipur for Dutta's 'Umrao Jaan'
After waiting for months for Aishwarya Rai, J.P. Dutta has finally started shooting for his ambitious project "Umrao Jaan" with the actress here.
The remake of Muzaffar Ali's old classic of the same title will see Aishwarya in the role of a courtesan and poetess that Rekha played in the original.
The desert of Rajasthan has always fascinated Dutta, who has launched his new film after a gap of one-and-a-half-years.
Be it the blockbuster "Border" or Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena Kapoor's launch vehicle "Refugee", Rajasthan has always been an integral part of Dutta's film.
The first round of "Umrao Jaan" would be shot at the City Palace in this Rajasthan capital. Besides Aishwarya, other actors like Shabana Azami and Himani Shivpuri are also camping in the city.
The administration has beefed up security at the Hotel Le Meridien, on the outskirts of the city, where the actors are staying. The hotel is out of bounds for the media.
Abhishek Bachchan and Suneil Shetty are expected to join soon.
Aishwarya In Van Damme Film
Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai is tipped to act in the new Asterix and Obelix film, which has also in the cast martial arts star Jean Claude van Damme. An entirely new part may be written for the Indian star in the film version of 'Asterix and Obelix at the Olympic Games', which does not have any main female characters. There is no news about what role would Aishwarya Rai play in the film, which is slated for release in 2007 or 2008 coinciding with the Beijing Olympics.Asterix fans around the globe will see a new Gaul hero in place of the affable Christian Clavier, who is not returning for the live action film based on the comic book by Rene Goscinny and Albert Uderzo.Famous French actor Gerard Depardieu will be back as the mehir-carrying Obelix in the film, which is expected to be his last.Depardieu is reported to be "in the process of stopping filming".Van Damme will be playing the Roman legionary Gluteus Maximus, who represents Rome at the Games. The 70-million budget film, which is in the pre-production stage although Uderzo has yet to give his final approval for the project, should have as director Frederic Foresier in place of Alain Chabat.Tunisia and Morocco, the location for the previous film 'Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra', have been chosen for shooting, which is slated to begin next year. In 'Asterix at the Olympic Games', the Gauls send their heroes to the Olympics while the Romans send legionary Gluteus Maximus. The Roman officials ban the magic potion saying it is an artificial stimulant leaving Asterix and Obelix to compete on their own wits. The premiere of the Hindi version of 'Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra' is scheduled to be held at the Goa International Film Festival of India (IFFI) on December 3 as part of the beach cinema. The original French film will be screened on December 2. The film's director Alain Chabat and actress Noemie Lenoir, a model for French cosmetics giant L'Oreal, are arriving in Goa next week for the IFFI screenings.

Saif spoilt for choice

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
Saif Ali Khan has preferred Vishal Bharadwaj's Othello over RGV's Sholay, where he was asked to play Veeru and Mani Ratnam's next bi-lingual film. According to him, all the three had huge roles for him but he had to make the decision of choosing among them. The actor is just back from a holiday in Zurich and London with a stop at the Marrakesh Film Festival. He will not be able to do Mani Ratnam's film due to date problems that clash with Siddarth Anand's next and he opted for Othello as it was his desire to be in a big gangster film. Saif will begin shooting for Othello by January 2006. "It is a very good script and I get to do a rustic character who has a UP accent. I've never done it before and it has got some cool dialogues", adds Saif. The actor has already started working for his appearance in the film.

'Gunning' it with Sushmita

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
Television may have become a big medium, of late. But it comes as no surprise that many television actors draw their inspiration from their big-screen idols. Sushmita Sen’s character in Samay has proven to be one such inspirational source for TV actress and re-mix star, Sonia Kapoor who plays an undercover cop in a soon going-to-be-launched tele-serial. She tells us, “Sushmita's character in Samay fascinated me a lot. So when Gautamji (Adhikari) came up with this script, I had no second thoughts. It was a great opportunity to do something so diverse from the regular," says Sonia. Well, if Sonia’s ‘gunning’ for success, let’s hope that this series proves to be her ‘kick’-start.

Preity going easy with Salman

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
She has just completed her work in Shirish Kunder's Jaan-e-Man and is now into Karan Johar's Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna . "No two films, set-ups and directors could be more different. I'm so excited," Preity Zinta squeals from NYC.Salaam Namaste is a world-wide hit. She's feeling on top of the world. But there's also the downside."I'm so home-sick! I'm living my life out of suitcases. I've been away from home so much I've forgotten what Mumbai looks like. I want to walk the streets of my city. I miss the city and specially the food so much! Is Mumbai cleaner now? I hope it is.."She pauses for breath, and then cheers up at the mention Salaam Namaste."I believe it's even bigger than Charlie & The Chocolate Factory in Australia! I spoke to my exhibitor-friend in Mumbai . He told me so far the three biggest hits of 2005 in India are Bunty Aur Babli, No Entry and Salaam Namaste…It feels great!""We were going into a rather dangerous territory—live-in realtionship and all. But we knew what we were doing. Salmaan Namaste reflects the reality about relationships today. The director Siddharth Anand was new, but so sure of what he he had to say."She perks up even more while speaking about her co-star ."Saif and I go back a long way…to my very first film Kya Kehna. And guess what? I was an unwed mom in that too, and Saif was the illegitimate father. Small world, huh? Saif and I just decided to back to basics again," she chuckles as only Preity can. "But seriously Saif and I share such a wonderful rapport. It showed up in all the four films we've done so far. All of them are hits.Yaaaaaaay!" She lets out a whoop of unconcealed delight. It's 12.45 am in New York and Preity is chewing on a salad. She's all keyed-up to go into Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna…"My first film with Karan Johar as director. And he goes into a totally unexplored territory. To that extend I guess I'll be building on my reputation as an actor who takes risks. Karan is such an entertainer, one can never get bored on his sets. I'm really looking forward to working with him…and Shah Rukh who's an absolute delight as a co-star.""And to add to my excitement I'll be working with my buddy Abhishek Bachchan for the first time. The only time we've shared camera space was on Koffee With Karan. Now I guess Karan will make us have more than just coffee. As for Mr Amitabh Bachchan, unke baare mein jitna kahaa jaye kam hai…Hey my Hindi is still ok in spite of my NRI status for so many months!"She chuckles some more at the mention of her female co-star Rani Mukherjee. "She's my good luck charm. Every film we did together was a big hit. I'm sure Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna would also be a success."She's all praise for her Jaan-e-Man director Shirish Kunder and co-stars Akshay Kumar and Salman Khan."Shrish hardly talks but his takings are terrific. Akshay and I had done one of my early films Sangharsh together. It's so strange to hear people in NY talking about my Sangharsh rather than Salaam Namaste. Akshay is great fun.""As for Salman… no uneasy moments at all. It was all cool. I believe the forensic experts back home have declared the tapes to be untrue. Thank God the clouds of controversy have lifted. I'm getting a little tired of being put right in the middle of crises when I've nothing to do with them."Back home the media is buzzing with rumours that Preity will paly Sonia Gnadhi."I'd love to. I've a lot of admiration for her. What a life! And what a staggering range of emotions to portray for an actress. But I haven't been approached for the role. I've met Jagmohan Mundra once briefly about two years ago. And that certainly had nothing to do with Sonia Gandhi."Then she "I needed to re-orient myself. Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna is so different from Jaan-e-Man which is fun, cool casual entertainer. Karan's film is ….different!"

Urmila Matondkar to perform in Goa!

This year's film festival (International Film Festival of India), to be held in Goa, promises to be different from other years. The opening act, for one, is going to be done by Urmila Matondkar. It will be a tribute to all Hindi film heroines, over the years. Tentatively, the songs chosen are Pyaar Kiya To Darna Kya from Mughal-E-Azam along with some numbers from Pakeezah and Umrao Jaan. She most definitely wants to dance to some popular Sridevi and Madhuri Dixit numbers, as well. I remember, when I had paid a similar tribute to Marathi cinema at the prestigious Ganesha Film Festival in Pune, the response was astounding. I hope my opening act at the film festival will be equally appreciated, says Urmila. " She has already started rehearsing for this performance, which will eventuate on November 24th.

SRK's help in anti-smoking drive!

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
He is a chain smoker himself, but recently on his birthday said that he wanted to quit smoking. And now Shah Rukh Khan may feature in an anti-smoking campaign.
SRK's pledge to quit smoking has come in for profuse praise from Union Minister for Health Anbumani Ramadoss who has sought the Bollywood star's cooperation in anti-smoking campaign.
Ramadoss, a known champion of the anti-tobacco cause, has written a letter to SRK telling him that "such a public health pronouncement by a charismatic personality" like him would go a long way in weaning the youth away from tobacco.
In the letter, the minister noted that SRK's pledge on the eve of his 40th birthday recently, has come at a time when the government is taking a series of measures to prevent the use of tobacco in general and the dangers of smoking in particular.
Ramadoss, who recently mooted the idea of banning on-screen, smoking, told the superstar that tobacco consumption continues to be a major preventable cause of death worldwide. Every year, four million people die of tobacco related causes worldwide and in South-East Asia alone, the number of such deaths exceed five lakhs, that is one person dying every eight seconds, he said.

Shah Rukh, Dilip Kumar invited to Pakistan

By: malik.bollywood@gmail.com
Indian superstar Shah Rukh Khan and thespian Dilip Kumar have been invited to Pakistan to take part in a conference on Hindko - a language spoken by Pathans.
"We have invited both men as their ancestors belonged to this part (of the country)," said Adnan Gull, vice chairman of the Gandhara Hindko Board, which is holding the Nov 19-20 meet.
The parents of Shah Rukh Khan lived in Peshawar, as did Dilip Kumar, before they moved to India during the sub-continent's partition in 1947. This is not the first time that the octogenarian Dilip Kumar has been invited to Pakistan. He has visited the country earlier, and has been warmly welcomed.
However Shah Rukh Khan, who is called Dilip Kumar-II by his fans, has never been to Pakistan.
"We haven't yet received any reply from both the Indian stars but we are hopeful they will consider our request," said Gull. He said 11 other invitees from India had confirmed their participation.
Hindko is an ancient language spoken in northern Pakistan, mainly in the North West Frontier Province, Punjab and Kashmir by an estimated 2.2 million people. Hindko speakers are commonly referred to as Punjabi Pathans or simply Pathans.
Gull said that literary figures from the US and Britain, who have rendered valuable services for the promotion of Hindko, would also attend the conference.
Gull regretted that though it was the second largest language after Pashto in the region, Hindko still lacked official patronage.
He said the Literary Academy of Pakistan had in 1987 formally approved the formation of a Hindko Academy, but the resolution still awaited implementation.
In 1997, the government announced it would establish a separate Hindko faculty in Peshawar University but this had not been done.
He said the board had published 14 books on the 2,000-year-old language and brought out a dictionary. The board had also started publishing a journal titled 'Hindkowan'.

To hell and back, Ash is woman of substance

By: malik.bollywood@gmail.com
I've seen her go through acute pain. Aishwarya Rai - or Ash, as friends insist on calling her - was in a bad relationship when I first met her.
It was during the making of "Devdas", and the man in her life would insist on barging into her schedules whenever he felt like it. He was making his presence felt in the most embarrassing and sadistic ways.
"It was like my breath was being choked out of my body all the time," she later confessed in an unguarded moment.
Whenever Aishwarya speaks about that part of her life she grows cold, like a cloud dimming the brightness of the sun.
Ash was traumatised. But she never allowed it to show in her performance or public conduct. I remember her on the set of "Devdas", dancing with Madhuri Dixit to the sound of 'Dola re...' While Madhuri sat in a corner after every shot, Ash would rush to the monitor, jump, squeal, dance and huddle playfully with the director to see the end result.
People said she was insensitive. "But they must understand my pain is not for anyone to sympathise or share. What I went through was my own...will remain my own. If my infamous giggle offended people they've to understand it's my defence mechanism. I cannot and will not express my personal pain in public." That was Ash at her mellowest.
She couldn't have chosen a better time to play the part of the brutalised, battered wife in Jagmohan Mundhra's "Provoked". I think this woman of satin-and-steel has gone through a helluva lot. It may not show in her immediate screen presence. But the pain has been tapped with considerable acumen in Rituparno Ghosh's "Raincoat".
"Provoked" will take Aishwarya further away from the will-o-the-wisp image of the fragile porcelain beauty. I've seen how determinedly she has fought back the adversities in her life.
Friends and colleagues of a certain Mr. Khan called her a tease and a provocateur for the flirty way she brushed of the welters and bruises. The fact is this lady has been through hell and has emerged a far more substantial woman.
Today Ash is in a far more calm and comforting relationship. Vivek Oberoi makes her feel like a lady. She loves the kindness and the chivalry, the little thoughtful gestures he showers on her...They were denied to her. Today she loves those things that make her feel like a true woman. She loves Vivek's passion for propriety.
In all the time that I've known her I've never seen Aishwarya bitch about anyone, not even those who have caused immense bodily and emotional grief.
The savagery is just there. No drama. No theatrics. Though people think otherwise, Ash is one of the least affected and coquettish actresses I know. Talk about her beauty embarrasses her. After all these years she still doesn't know how to handle compliments on her looks.
"I don't know," she once giggled as we sat in the cosy corner-room of her stunningly well-appointed home. "Maybe there're classes where you learn to handle beauty compliments."
And then there's that appealing peal of laughter...like pearls scattering from a broken bead. I never want that infectious giggle to subside. I want this woman of substance to be happy and successful - because she has earned both.

"I can't pay Preity for ........," Ness Wadia!

By: malik.bollywood@gmail.com
Mumbai-based industrialist Ness Wadia may have love for Bollywood actress Preity Zinta, what he has admitted also publicly, but he won't let it come into his business. Because as he said, "Business and sentiments don't go together." Recently in a press meet, Ness said clearly that he isn't going to appoint Preity as brand ambassador for his airlines. If he appoints her also he can't pay for that. "If Preity demands money for it, I would say no," said Ness Wadia. "In fact my airlines didn't need any ambassador," he added.

Hrithik - The real life hero

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
Mohammed Zahid just had the time of his life. And the person who made it possible was superstar Hrithik Roshan, who is currently shooting for his home production Krrish in Singapore. Zahid, 23, who works in a car accessories company, has been a Bollywood buff for as long as he can remember. Unfortunately, all his life, he has been living with spinal bifida due to which he has difficulty, walking. The production team of Krrish and the Singapore Tourism Board invited him on the sets of Krrish to spend time with Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik was very friendly and Zahid spent the entire day on the sets. And the icing on the cake was that Zahid made a cameo appearance in the movie! We’re sure the whole experience for him was special. And what makes it even better is that the memory has been immortalized on celluloid!

Shilpa refuses to dance at the mega NRI show

[malik.bollywood@gmail.com]
Shilpa Shetty pulled out at the last minute from the Diwali Dhamaka show featuring Sunny and Bobby Deol, Urmila Matondkar, and Tusshar Kapoor. Shilpa, known to be a through professional, pulled out of the show because she was not paid the amount due to her, and the cheque she was given bounced. The shows have been organised by NRI Dr D S Sandhu, and are supposed to be taking place currently in America and Canada.
Shetty says, "Yes, I have opted out of the show as I am only abiding by the clauses in the agreement. It is obvious that there must be a valid reason for one not to do a show, and to be very frank, I'm not even sure if the shows are taking place at all… I have only done what is ethical, after all the cheque that bounced was a huge amount. And since I don't like controversies, I don't wish to get into this any further. I have done hundreds of shows and no one can say that I have been unprofessional."
What about the dates she reserved for the shows that have now gone to waste? "This has happened for the second time… earlier too, some shows were cancelled. Not only are our dates wasted, but our time and effort for the rehearsals as well. But I am a positive thinker and I have better things to do now. I have just signed Anil Sharma's film Apne and I am very excited about it. "
Apparently, even Priyanka Chopra has opted out of the same show for similar reasons, but she was unavailable for comments.

I am open enough to admit that I am seeing Vikram," said Aamisha Patel in an interview. However Aamisha is not in hurry to marry Vikram. "There are no immediate plans to get married. I will marry eventually. But there's still time for it because I am busy with my films," said Aamisha while talking about her marriage plan. Is Vikram in hurry to tie the knot? Vikram keeps mum; but not too many days earlier in an interview, Vikram said he and Aamisha would tie the knot soon.

Birthday gal Ash hopes life has surprises in store

By: malik.bollywood@gmail.com
Aishwarya Rai, who's wrapping up filming for "The Last Legion" in Slovakia and was not able to celebrate her birthday, which coincided with Diwali, with her family, was touched when her co-stars organised a surprise bash for her.
The actor, who has been shooting in Tunisia and Slovakia for "The Last Legion", her latest international film project, said the film unit had made her birthday and Diwali special but she was eager to return home to family.
"I've no qualms about admitting that I'm 32. What's the big deal? I feel anything from 18 to 88 on any given day, depending on my state of mind. The infamous giggle comes in when I feel 18," she giggled.
In Slovakia on her birthday Nov 1, the stunning Rai definitely felt 18.

"It's been such a wonderful birthday. The whole unit of my film (The Last Legion) brought in my birthday. Since my birthday coincides with Diwali I felt doubly special," Aishwarya told IANS.
"They had put up a banner saying 'Happy Diwali, Aishwarya'. And then they had arranged for the most awesome firecrackers. I have to admit this is one birthday I'm not likely to forget easily."
She has just about wrapped up the shooting of "The Last Legion".
"Just a few more days to go and then I'm back home. Gawd! How I miss my family! It isn't so much because of my birthday that I want to be with my family. It's Diwali. Everyone wants to be home for the festival.
"Even my mother isn't with me here in Slovakia because of Diwali. You know, the last couple of times I managed to be home for Diwali. So I was looking forward to it again this year. But my schedules don't allow me the luxury of doing what I crave to."

After she wraps up "The Last Legion" in about a week, Aishwarya comes straight to Mumbai for "Dhoom 2" and later J.P. Dutta's "Umrao Jaan".
"'Umrao Jaan' starts in December. We shoot that in Rajasthan. I know what miracles JP Saab has worked in Rajasthan in 'Ghulami' and 'Batwara'. I'm really looking forward to it. As for 'Dhoom 2' it will be great fun. It's the first time I'll be working with Hrithik.... We've come close to working together a couple of times before. It's finally happening."
But for now she's in a complete birthday mood.
"The party was so special, so carefully prepared. Everyone from the unit including my co-stars Colin Firth and Ben Kingsley were there. It was meant to be a surprise. And honest to God, I didn't know a thing about it. I love surprises. I hope life has many more in store for me," she laughs some more.
Then she gets a wee homesick.
"How's Mumbai? How's everyone in the industry? I haven't spoken to any person from the industry or the media ever since I got here."

Salman's good deed!

By: malik.bollywood@gmail.com
Here's one story that was quite touching. Salman Khan, we hear, went out of his way to meet the conjoined twins Farah and Sabah who had come to Mumbai from Patna for a complex surgery. The twins simply love the actor and were overjoyed when they were taken to Sallu's house in Bandra, Mumbai. The Khan then actually whisked them away to the sets so they could watch him shoot. Now this is one treat the girls are never gonna forget!

Akshay admits to being a casanova

By: malik.bollywood@gmail.com
We had no doubt about it, but Akshay Kumar has only now admitted to it - the actor, whose film Garam Masala has just released (in which he plays a Casanova) claims that his role in the film reminds him of himself before marriage. While other actors prefer to keep their skeletons in the closet, Kumar at least is transparent on that front. “Its as if I am taking a look at what I was before marriage and I am not ashamed to admit it,” says Akshay candidly. “I was like this five years ago. It was amusing to play the character, because it felt like I was almost playing myself in flashback mode. Today I’m happily married and all that is behind me. But whenever I see Garam Masala, it reminds me of those days and I laugh at it.” Now that’s honest enough for us, but wonder if that’s too much honesty for wifey Twinkle? We’ll let you know if AK is in one piece the next time we see him!

No celebrations in New York for Shah Rukh and co

By: malik.bollywood@gmail.com
It's double celebration time in New York - Diwali on Tuesday and Shah Rukh Khan's 40th birthday Wednesday. But there's little time to party with shooting on for Karan Johar's new film and birthday boy also busy with promoting his "Paheli" for the Oscars.
"There's no time to celebrate," bemoans the harassed director Karan Johar, whose new directorial venture "Kabhi Alvidaa Na Kehna" is being shot at full speed in the heart of New York. "We're working round the clock. Diwali is just a thought so far away from home. Wish we were back."
No concrete birthday plans have been made for Shah Rukh's birthday either. "Everyone will probably go out for dinner with Shah Rukh after shooting... that's it," ventures Karan. "Shah Rukh's right now busier than all of us in the unit."

Apart from shooting for Karan Johar's film, Shah Rukh is busy promoting "Paheli in the US for the Oscars. The actor, who turns 40 Wednesday, is going all out to ensure that the film gets noticed in the night places.
"Shah Rukh is making sure that 'Paheli' has a genuinely valid shot at the Oscar and does not get left out of the nominations list for the lack of proper promotion. He's unarguably one of the best producers in Bollywood," says a colleague from the unit.

Aishwarya Rai turns a year older

By : malik.bollywood@gmail.com
Aishwarya Rai, who turned a year older Tuesday, is clearly on top of the world.
So how much did she got paid for her role in "The Last Legion", her latest international film project?
"Ha! I'm not telling! What I'll tell you is I've never had so much fun acting," she said.
"So far I was doing lots of roles that required me to play a woman with a heavy soul. Not that I didn't enjoy that phase of my career. But now I'm finally playing girls who wanna have fun," Aishwarya told IANS.

In "The Last Legion", which she has just shot in Tunisia and Slovakia, she plays a horse-riding, sword-fighting warrior.
"I've never done this before, you know, riding a horse. It was really something! There's a lot of sword fighting.
"There was hardly any time to prepare, to learn these things. I reached the location and almost immediately got into it. But the whole ambience was so professional and yet so relaxed," she said.
"All of us were work-oriented. But it wasn't all work and no play. Everyone was so much into work, and yet having a good time," she added.
Ash is the main and only female lead in "The Last Legion". To that extent it could be perceived as her true launch into international cine-stardom.
She disagrees.

"I don't see 'The Last Legion' that way. Why do you see it as my international launch? Why is 'Provoked' or 'Mistress Of Spices' not an international project? Because I play Indian characters in them? It doesn't work that way for me."
After "The Last Legion", Ash goes into "Umrao Jaan" and "Dhoom 2". "Both are very different from one another. I've never played these kinds of roles before."
What's the truth about Ash losing weight to fit into a bikini for "Dhoom 2"? "There's no bikini, please! But yes, I've definitely lost weight.
"It's a process that started earlier for 'The Last Legion'. If I had to get on a horse, I had to look worthy of it, no?

"And since in 'Dhoom 2' I'm playing an utter hip-and-now character, I naturally needed to get more into shape. So it was a natural process. Not one of those dietary missions."
Ash shocks with her next declaration.
"Do you know I had never worked out, never made any effort to lose weight? I'm a total foodie with a sweet tooth, and I've never tried to control my diet.
"During 'Bride and Prejudice' and 'Raincoat', the directors did want me to look a little heavy for my characters. But for 'The Last Legion' and 'Dhoom 2' I had to close it. Nothing stipulated in the contract or anything, please! But just something I thought I needed to do."
According to Ash-gazers, she's currently in a transitional phase in her career.
"Am I? I've never looked at my career in phases. There's never the urge to look at one particular part of my career as all-consuming.

"People can perhaps categorise different phases in my career. For me, everything I do is equally important. You may think some of my earlier films were candyfloss.
"But believe me, they were as hard to do as the battered wife in 'Provoked' or the warrior in 'The Last Legion'," Aishwarya said.
The talk veers to Amitabh Bachchan and his endearment for her: "Madam, I'm your only Adam."
"I didn't know Mr Bachchan had quietly incorporated that line for me at the end of our number in 'Bunty Aur Babli'."
She's genuinely surprised when I inform her that "Madam. I'm Your Adam" has become a song in David Dhawan's new comedy "Shaadi No 1".
"You can't be serious! Really? But that was a special line only for me. They can't do that," she grumbled good-naturedly.

Vaah..... film ho to aisi - Kareena to Shahid!

NEW - 01/11/2005 - malik.bollywood@gmail.com
Film's name 'Vaah… Life Ho To Aisi' starring Shahid Kapur in the lead. And Shahid's girlfriend Kareena Kapoor, who saw the promos of the film, was apparently squealed with laughter and commented vaah. …film ho to aisi; this film will be a hit. We hear it has a lot of sci-fi special effects including a disappearing character, flying car, which reminds the flying car in Hrithik Roshan starrer 'Koi Mil Gaya'. Shahid plays a character called Adi Chacha, who lives in an old bungalow with kids. So don't be surprised if sweet kids fall in love with Shahid. Listening Kareena?
