Kolkata fans worry about Bachchan

They were celebrating Amitabh Bachchan's 66th birthday at a temple built for him in Kolkata when news of his hospitalisation came like a cruel blow. Now the Bollywood superstar's fans are spending sleepless nights praying that their "god" gets well soon.

"Amitabh is our god and you can imagine how the devotees feel when their god is unwell," Sanjay Patodia, West Bengal secretary of Amitabh Bachchan Fans Association, told IANS on Monday.

The Big B's fans have been very worried since the actor was admitted to Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday with abdominal pains.

"When we saw news of his illness on television, our hearts stopped beating for a moment. Since then we are spending sleepless nights thinking about his health," Patodia added.

The temple to Amitabh is located in south Kolkata. The actor's fans also performed a 'yagna' (holy fire ritual) and prayed for him at the Kalighat temple in south Kolkata.

"We performed a yagna at the Amitabh Bachchan temple and also prayed for his health at Kalighat on Sunday. We have couriered the 'prasad' (holy offering) as well as a piece of Goddess Kali's holy attire to Jaya-di (Amitabh's wife Jaya) on Monday. We have requested her to keep the holy cloth under Amitabh's pillow," Patodia said.

Patodia is planning to fly to Mumbai to meet the actor.

"But Amitabh's secretary said he is better and asked me to meet him after he returns home from hospital," he said.

The superstar's fans feel it is high time the actor cuts down on his work load for the sake of his health.

"We understand he is an workaholic. But we wish 'dada' (Amitabh) should reduce his work pressure and take care of his health," Patodia said.

Amitabh was celebrating his birthday at his residence Pratiksha when he suddenly experienced severe abdominal pain and was rushed to hospital.
