The railway minister took home a cash prize of 1 crore

The set of Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai was full of excitement and anticipation on Thursday. The grand finale episode of Season One was shot with guest celebrities Laloo Prasad Yadav, Priyanka Chopra and Harman Baweja.

A source reveals that Shah Rukh was pretty upbeat and eager to meet the railway minister, “SRK was heard talking days before about the finale episode. He always enjoyed Laloo’s one-liners and his witty sense of humour and now he was finally getting to grill him.”

Apparently, Laloo stunned everyone with his razor-sharp responses. “When SRK said he was a fan of Laloo because of his intellect and political wisdom, Laloo replied saying he was SRK’s airconditioner! Interestingly, he didn’t use anycheat option from any of the students ready to help him.”

Laloo hit the one crore jackpot and donated his winnings to a railway charitable organisation. “He gave many insights about his school days and loved the concept of the show because of the educative angle.”

Madhuri, Juhi snub Paanchvi Pass

Did not take Paanchvi team’s calls; SRK had to call KJo at the last minute

Madhuri Dixit was supposed to feature with Rani Mukerji in the celebrity episode of Paanchvi Pass, which was shot on Wednesday. At the nth hour the actress remained unreachable.

As a result, Juhi Chawla was asked to be on the show. But Chawla, too, did not respond to the phone calls. As a last resort, host Shah Rukh Khan called buddy Karan Johar to step in.

Paanchvi, produced by Siddharth Basu’s Synergy Communications, had been in touch with Madhuri. But when the date to shoot was nearing, she remained elusive. As a result, Juhi’s name was considered.

Says a source, “Time was running out, SRK took on the onus to salvage the situation. He called buddy Karan Johar (who picked up the phone!) and the director made his way to the show.”

Says Rikku Rakeshnath, Madhuri’s spokesperson, “I don’t think she was supposed to be on the show.”

Baa gets jiggy with SRK

SRK got jiggy with Baa (Sudha Shivpuri) and the entire Kyunki family on Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain. But what better way to celebrate Mother’s Day than with Baa, who at last count, according to Ekta Kapoor’s never-ending soap had Baa touch the ripe old age of 300, if not 500, considering that she has seen multitudes of generations in the soap.

Shah Rukh Khan has also grilled Kyunki couple Hiten and Gauri Pradhan on making official their love story. After much blushing and reluctance, Hiten opens up and reveals, “We met on the set on Kutumbb, but Gauri was very reserved. One day, as usual, I was cracking jokes with my fellow actors when I noticed she was also laughing. She laughed and I looked at her and said “ladki hasi yaane fasi”. It started from that day.”

While the Bidaai girls Sara Khan and Parul Chauhan who also appear on the show just couldn’t take their hands off SRK. Just take a look at the pic below.

Saif Kareena in PAANCHVI PAAS

King Khan has left no stone unturned in promoting his show KYA AAP PAANCHVI PAAS SE TEZ HAIN. Either through music album or through other celebs.

Recently the hot & happening couple of Bollywood Saif-Kareena shot for KYA AAP PAANCHVI PAAS SE TEZ HAIN. It is heard that the star couple will appear in the show and whatever amount they win will be donated for a charity of their choice. The date of telecast is not yet finalized.

Earlier also Kareena had featured in SRK hosted 'Kaun Banega Crorepati' along with Priyanka Chopra. While Saif had featured in Big B hosted KBC with bubbly Preity Zinta.

Let's wait and watch if the couple is smarter than a 5th grader.

King on various roles!

His releases are scheduled only for the second half of this year.

Yet, thanks to IPL and a TV game show, there’s no missing their fave star for Shah Rukh Khan fans. And they’re loving his juggling of roles. SRK himself had once said, “I do a lot of things on the spur of the moment. I like to try and take chances. That makes me what I am.”

He’s got what it takes to impress in every sphere, say star-watchers. “A good host must have charisma, spontaneity, intelligence, humour, the ability to connect with the audience and presence of mind. SRK has all this and more. He was the most natural choice. There are few people who are so multi-faceted,” says Anupama Mandloi, senior creative director of the channel that airs the SRK game show.

Actress Manasi Joshi Roy wants SRK to do everything that comes his way. “He’s a rockstar. I want him to take up all the projects that come his way so that I get to see him more often,” she says. About SRK’s new avatars, the actress says, “I was impressed to see him as a businessman and team manager of the Kolkata Knight Riders, and was bowled over when I saw him on the new game show.”
Says actress Sophie Chaudhary, “There can be no bigger motivating force than SRK as an IPL team manager. He rocks as a TV host. He’s very spontaneous, witty and I love the way he makes participants feel comfortable.”

Anchor-cum-actor Rohit Roy rates Shah Rukh’s TV appearance very high. “He can make a success of anything he dabbles in. As an IPL manager, he’s stylised his team like no one else has done. SRK presents himself very well as an anchor on TV. He makes the show smooth and his rapport with the participants is unmatched,” says Rohit. “You have to hand it to him for handling it so well in the midst of the IPL tension.”
Others prefer to follow SRK as a cricket entrepreneur. “He’s already made an impact on the small screen.

Now I prefer seeing him as an IPL team manager,” says actor Aashish Chaudhary. “SRK has more guts than talent and he has proved that an actor can do much more than just act. As an IPL team manager, he’s created a new business cult. Marketing is something that cricket has in abundance and films don’t, but with IPL, SRK has bridged that gap. He has so much foresight and business acumen that he’s now holding his own against the Mallyas and the Ambanis,” says Ashish.

Why SRK and workaholic are synonyms!

If the dictionary and the lexicons cannot give the exact definition and description of a workaholic, a better idea would be to take a look at Shah Rukh Khan's recent schedule.

In less than a week, King Khan cheers his IPL team, the Kolkata Knight Riders' on two different venues in India and before one can say 'wow' he is off to shoot for his home production, BILLU BARBAR and the latest quiz show, KYA AAP PAANCHVI PAAS SE TEZ HAIN.

If that is not strenuous enough, he also turns up to perform at an award function in London, and before one can bat an eyelid he is physically present to unveil his second wax statue (after Madame Tussauds) at the Graven Museum in France. In between he also has time for product endorsements and keeping the press happy by answering all their questions regarding his team and his latest quiz show. We have also heard that he has cancelled his plans for the annual vacation with his family due to his extra busy schedule.

Well, if Bollywood's global superstar does not signify workaholic; we wonder what/who else does!

For the first time an Indian woman has won ek karod on a game show

The first crorepati of Star Plus’ Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai? is a woman from Bhubaneshwar.

She has the singular distinction of being the first female to win a cool crore in a reality show on Indian television.

The episode, which was shot on Monday, will be telecast on June 11. She was accompanied by her brother on the show.

The channel is keeping her identity under wraps to avoid being hounded as the telecast date is over a month away.

The winner has also been told to not utter a word — even to her family members and overnight relatives who are eager to know her winning amount.

It is learnt that another female participant, also from outside Mumbai had won Rs 50 lakh earlier. She has been described to be a homemaker and there is also a veil of secrecy about her name and her residence.

Strangely, the channel prefers to be tightlipped about the participants and the winning amount at a time when the IPL matches are supposedly ruling the small screen viewership.

Yet they continue to underplay the news that would get them the necessary eyeballs. By revealing the show’s high points, they could certainly give the much-needed impetus to the show.

Kya Saif-Bebo Paanchvi Paas Hai?
Saif Ali Khan and ladylove Kareena Kapoor shot for Kya Aap Paanchi Paas Se Tez Hai? on Tuesday evening. The star couple played for a charity of their choice. The date of telecast is yet to be ascertained.

Kareena had featured in the SRK hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati 3 with Priyanka Chopra. Saif had been on the hot seat with Preity Zinta when Big B was anchoring KBC.

Lage Raho Gujjubhai
SRK took a great fancy to participant Jayantilal Trivedi who shot for the episode on Tuesday. Trivedi entered the class gyrating with dandiyas on Chail Chabilo Gujarati.

Surat-based Trivedi, who works in a chemical plant, was a livewire who played without any help and kept the audience and SRK in splits. He even recited a poem for King Khan.

The actor was both flattered and embarrassed at this gesture. When Shah Rukh asked him about his family, he sobbed bitterly while talking about his earlier hard days.

Telly stars too!
The May 11 episode of Paanchvi Paas will be a soap special. It has Kyunki stars Hiten Tejwani and Gauri Pradhan as well as the Bidaai girls — Sara Khan and Parul Chauhan testing their knowledge while playing for charities.

Dance and dimples

This week’s Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? participants Priyanka Chaterjee and Neha Kalra took more than just the challenge on the show. Priyanka flirts with anchor Shah Rukh Khan, as she persuades SRK to dance with her on a romantic song from Om Shanti Om. While his fans go fidaa over SRK’s dimples, King Khan drools and recites a poetry over Neha Kalra whose dimples can be used as reservoirs in rains as Shah Rukh puts it!

SRK: an actor, a host, a producer, a husband and a father

If you think earning lots of moolah is the only thing on Shah Rukh Khan’s mind, think again.

The actor who already has helped set up a pediatric ward at a city hospital now wants to set up a ward for cancer patients too. "I get embarrassed to talk about such things. The hospital people were kind enough to name the pediatric ward after my mother. I hope to set up a centre for cancer patients later this year," he reveals. But that’s not all, SRK even has plans to set up a hospital.

"That’s my final dream. Though I don’t know when that will be possible. I keep telling my wife that I have to do this and she keeps telling me that I can do it only when I stop doing the other things," he says.
But of course, there’s loads of work to be done too. Besides his role, that of a host in Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai?, the actor is back at the studios doing what he does best acting!

His two films this year are Billoo Barber and Aditya Chopra’s Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. But there’s no denying the fact that we are seeing a lot of SRK on the small screen than the big one. "It’s not that I am too much on TV, it’s just that there’s lot of TV happening these days. Cinema is no more the only form of entertainment. We are talking about watching films on mobile phones. Five years from now, I may be doing a movie that may be released on cellphones. Does that mean I become smaller or has the reach increased," he questions. And the talk of his big comeback on TV, doesn’t impress SRK much. "This thing of ‘you started with TV and came back to TV...’ I have always been on TV."

But aren’t there too many endorsements, shows, etc that he’s doing on TV? "No, just day before yesterday I was thinking I am doing very less," he smiles the famous dimpled smile. Be it films, TV or cricket, SRK has conquered every pitch. It looks like the name SRK is now synonymous with success. "For success you need to know that you can go wrong and yet go ahead and do it. People who do wrong things, like stealing or murder, have overcome the thought that this is wrong. They have found their justification. Positively, if we apply the same, it will work. As soon as you accept that this can go wrong, the fear of failure decreases. If tomorrow I face failure, I hope I can say I enjoyed failure too," he philosophises.

Astrologers and industry people often talk about the brilliant planetary positions that SRK has been blessed with, so is luck as important for his success? "Giving all the credit to luck takes away from the hard work involved. People will say I got a good show and it’s our luck that the show’s doing well. But there’s a lot of hard work involved here. I am not successful by luck, but because I am in the right place. I am not special. Eight years ago I thought I was, but after that, I think there is a set of audience that likes my work," he states matter-of-factly.

And despite spending so many years in the industry, Shah Rukh thrives on one thing, "Giving a perfect shot. Be it in films or TV. For example, when I get the timing of a joke right. I can live off it for 10-20 days." But hosting is one thing that tires even the super-energetic King Khan. "TV work is very difficult. Especially quiz shows. It’s almost live. Also, there are many factors like unknown contestants, dealing with kids, the 200 lights and after all that, there’s a deadline to adhere to. I can work for 20 hours. I can dance, fight, do press conferences and not get tired, but with this I get tired. Also a show like Kya Aap... needs something from the host. There is a certain responsibility and I never shirk away from responsibilities. But yes, it is tiring and I get a headache at the end of the day. But the problem is when I return home, my kids want me to ask them the same questions again. So I have to sit down and do that," he says.

An actor, a host, a producer, a husband and a father. SRK has many roles, so who’s the real SRK? He says, "Honestly, even I don’t know myself. You keep acting the whole day. You do lot of things that are larger than life. Lines start getting blurred after a point. The closest I came to playing myself was in KBC and now this show. On the show I emote the way I would in real life."

Shah Rukh: The Host-Rider!

Shah Rukh Khan seems to be telling many of his near and dear ones to be his guest.

And most of them are more than willing to attend the cricket matches with him. Apparently, all the actors who’ve gone to cheer his team, have returned impressed with the host that he is. "He personally looks into everything from the minute you reach the airport the flight boarding, getting into the bus, a comfortable drive to the hotel and check-in, commuting to the venue, the food and everything else. Also, he is extra protective of the ladies who are travelling, and Gauri’s friends and actresses," says a close friend of Khan. Now, that’s our host-rider!

Dhoni and Yuvi on SRK's PAANCHVI PAAS... if

The bonhomie that exits between Bollywood colleagues and also high profiles cricketers may once again come to the fore, this time on television.

It is well known that Shah Rukh Khan is the owner of Indian Premier League's Kolkata Knight Riders, still Preity Zinta, the owner of a rival team, King's XI Punjab, has already agreed to be a part of SRK's latest TV quiz show.

Yes, Preity has already rehearsed for Shah Rukh Khan's KYA AAP PAANCHVI PAAS SE TEZ HAIN, the show that had a cracker of a start last Friday. And if that is not enough, the captain of Preity Zinta's team, Yuvraj Singh and the captain of another rival team, Chennai's Super Kings, Mahendra Singh Dhoni are expected to follow suit.

However, there is an 'if' (as in our headlines!) because that will happen only if the strenuous Indian Premier League schedule permits. Here's hoping that it does!

The paanch kids in Paanchvi Pass

The children who feature with SRK in Paanchvi Paas were selected after several tests

The five kids who feature with Shah Rukh Khan in Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? were selected after months of stringent screening and aptitude tests held all over the country.
The quiz show airs from tonight on Star Plus. The spunky kids are classmates in the Paanchvi ki Kaksha. The childrenwill help the contestants (the adults) earn high marks and win big money.

Here’s a look at the brainy five.....

Shriya Sharma (10) is called princess by SRK. She aspires to be an astronaut. Born and brought up in Palampur, Shriya is a topper in her class and has acted in the telly soap Kasautii Zindagii Kay. Bright in academics, English, maths, Geography and social studies are her strong subjects.

Dheriya Sorecha (9) is the naughtiest among the Paanchvi ki Paltan. SRK calls him Harry Puttar. As Dheriya says, “Harry Potter-like specs and smile are my style statement.” His fave subjects are maths, science, Hindi and social studies. He’s a smart, energetic student who also excels in extra-curricular activities. Dheriya aspires to become an actor.

Anubhav Motilal (9) is a die-hard SRK and Hritik Roshan fan. He wants to become a chef. This tech-savvy kid is a ready-reckoner for all current affairs and is equipped with excellent communication skills. His strong subjects are English, Hindi and general knowledge. Also known as the mini-dada of the Paanchvi Ki Paltan; Anubhav loves to take pangas with the learned adults who appear as participants.

Shreeparna Ghosal (10) aspires to be a doctor. She always comes first in class and enjoys her studies. Like many kids her age, Shreeparna loves singing, painting and dancing. But unlike the other kids, this sprightly wonderkid dares the intelligent, learned adults with her knowledge of maths, social studies, English and science.

Milanjeet Singh Bhatti (9) is called Milli puttar. He aspires to be an electronic engineer and that speaks a lot about this Paanchvi Pass kid. The best student, best orator of his school and a voracious reader, Milanjeet’s favourite subjects are geography, science, social studies and English.

The first contestant on Paanchvi Paas is Vedula Ramalakshmi from Orissa. She’s a MA gold medalist and considers herself up-to date with her GK, especially class five stuff. Her husband, a palmist has predicted that she will win Rs 1 crore. The grand prize money for the show is Rs 5 crore for answering 11 questions right. Will Vedula make it?

'I'd rather watch Paanchvi Paas'

SRK believes the IPL matches won't affect his new show that premieres tomorrow night on Star Plus

On the eve of yet another of his small screen outings, Shah Rukh Khan speaks about his new show, Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai?...

The opening of Paanchvi Pass clashes with the IPL matches. Aren’t you worried about the TRPs being low, since the matches have been huge hits?
No. I don’t want to be pompous but people will watch Shah Rukh Khan. To be honest, I’d rather watch Paanchvi Pass.

Why? What’s so special about it?
It’s an awesome concept. There is no stopping Paanchvi Paas. I never make claims like these. It’s really endearing, witty and sweet. It’s a quiz show of class one to class five. If I sit down with you for two minutes and start playing it, I’m sure you’ll end up playing for at least half an hour. How many legs does a butterfly have? Answer that for Rs 5 lakh. Then I’ll you other simple questions like who started the Gregorian calendar and which is the planet closest to Earth? If I tell you the answers, you’ll say, “Arre, I knew the answer to this yaar.” It’s an amazing show that you can sit with kids and watch.

What aspects of it are you particularly charmed by?
The lifelines. Like we had a phone-a-friend in KBC. I am the school teacher, and in my classroom, there are five kids, whose help the contestants can take. I ask a question and you can use three helplines — just like in KBC. The helpline is: You ask the kids, “Can I cheat from you, please?” We’ve had contestants who are MBBS students, IIM graduates and gold medallists. And then we ask them this class one question. It is so simple and they know the answers but there are no multiple choices so they ask these nine-year-olds, “Milindji, Siddharthji, please maano yaar, ae answer bataoge?” And as the teacher, I say, “Okay, you can cheat now.” The beauty of it is that this cheat can go right or wrong. Kids can give a wrong answer too. Like in KBC, you phone a friend, and he or she doesn’t necessarily know the answer.

Are the kids going to be the same on all the shows?
Yes, these five kids have been signed on for one season you cannot keep training new kids.

Was it a deliberate move to not do KBC anymore, and opt for this show instead?
Yes. You know, both my films fell through Robot and the Rajkumar Hirani film, and I had free time on hand. So I called the channel and said, “Let’s shoot KBC,” as I was under contract to do one more season with them. Then, I saw Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? while in America and I asked them: why don’t we do this instead? And luckily, we found someone in India Airtel who had the rights. So everything fell into place and it just required us to work a little harder for a month before it was all set.

You seem to be enjoying this show more than KBC.
To be very honest, this is more up my alley. I’ve actually exhausted all the quips and jokes I’ve done on KBC. Had this show been done with me first, it would’ve been even more original.

When is your son Aryan coming on the show?
Aryan has just gone to the fifth grade. He’s right for the show but you have to be already in it to come on it. The kids have been chosen from all over India but till the time we selected them, Aryan and his friends used to play with me. I did a lot more rehearsals for this than I did for KBC.

Expect Yuvraj, Dhoni, Ganguly on SRK's show

Mumbai: Shah Rukh Khan is all set to prove he is the king of both the big and the small screen.

After grabbing TRPs with the popular Kaun Banega Crorepati, King Khan is geared up to woo audiences yet again with another quiz show Kya Aap Panchvi Pass Se Tez Hain?.

“I like quizzing, I like the company of Sidharth (Basu) and his team. It's intelligent, it's smart, it makes you earn money. It's educative and will tell people how to mix study and games well,” he says of the show format.

Keeping in tune with the IPL craze, SRK also has plans to invite few cricket stars on the show. “I have asked Yuvraj (Singh). He is keen. I will speak with Saurav (Ganguly) and others from my (IPL) team. I will speak to Dhoni as well. But Yuvraj is more or less confirmed provided it doesn't disrupt his match schedule. We don't want to disturb any player,” he says.

But does the king khan consider himself to be smarter than a fifth grader? “Even after passing Vth standard, I am no smarter than a fifth grader,” he signs off.

Shah Rukh Khan versus Bollywood!

No one can deny the fact that Shah Rukh Khan is the biggest global superstar in the Hindi film industry. As is well known, King Khan has taken up another TV quiz show (after Kaun Banega Crorepati), which will run during prime time on the country's number 1 channel, across March end, April and May. It is given that the show, 'Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hain? ' will command record eyeballs for sure, especially during the initial episodes.

As is known, Shah Rukh Khan also owns a cricket team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), Kolkota Knight Riders, which will play Twenty20 competitions in which a record 59 matches will be played and telecast in April-May. Knowing the involvement of SRK and some of the other high profile members in IPL, it is naturally going to be a huge event that will command undivided attention of the cricket crazy nation.

So it is but obvious that both Shah Rukh's television show and the IPL cricket tournament will have an adverse effect on the films releasing during those times. And will take away the audience that might otherwise have bought tickets for entertainment purposes.

Well, on a serious note, its only the makers (who have cinematically inferior products) and media hyped stars who need to worry and will crib about these factors for the failure of their projects. There have been countless instances when audiences have thronged to the theatres despite the most hyped events. But then on many of those occasions, King Khan was on the right side of the fence for Bollywood!

SRK wants to delay Paanchvi Paas

Shah Rukh Khan is in a dilemma and he is trying his best to sort it out. His next quiz show on Star Plus, Kya Aap Paanchvi Pass Se Tez Hai? will be aired April 18 onwards, coinciding with the launch of the Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament wherein SRK owns the Kolkata franchise.

Time trouble

It is reliably learnt that the actor is trying his best to postpone the telecast date of Paanchvi Pass as he can’t postpone the IPL matches.

Says a source, “The IPL’s 44-day cricket bonanza begins on April 18 and will have a total of 59 T20 matches.

His TV show begins on the same date and will be telecast 8 pm onwards on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, clashing with the IPL telecast on Max on weekends, 8 pm onwards. Shah Rukh is extremely worried about the timings.”

Conflict of interest

But that’s not the only reason. The source adds, “Star Plus has signed up Airtel as the presenting sponsor for Paanchvi Pass while Airtel’s competitor Vodafone has signed up as the presenting sponsor for the IPL on Sony. This has kicked off a battle of sponsorships between the broadcasters as SRK endorses Airtel.

Siddharth Basu of Synergy Communications, which is producing Paanchvi Pass, says, “The time and date of telecast of the show will be announced shortly.”

Shah Rukh was unavailable for comment.
