Amitabh Bachchan as Bhishm Pitamah's

The mega television serial Mahabharata inspired entire families to watch and pray together and now, the B R Chopra banner plans to turn Mahabharata into a film but with a twist.

Director Ravi Chopra cannot cut a shorter version than six hours so he plans to cut two, three-hour versions of the film and release them in two consecutive weeks.

Chopra isn’t worried about distributors agreeing to this new tactic and he sounds like a very inspired man.

"I watched Lord of the Rings and the time is right to make this film," says Chopra.

While the filmmaker is currently busy putting the finishing touches to his family drama Baabul, rumours are that Amitabh Bachchan will play Bhishm Pitamah's role and Rani Mukherjee will play Draupadi.

But Chopra says he's not cast anyone yet. “It’s still being scripted and the cast will take time to decide," says Chopra.

With Baabul already creating a lot of buzz and Bhootnath set to go on the floors, Mahabharata might be a while away.

Nevertheless, given his expertise with mythology on television, Chopra's Mahabharata is already creating a lot of curiosity.
