“Nobody’s father can ask me to shut up” - Sajid Khan

After the public spat between the show’s host Sajid Khan and best director award winner Ashutosh Gowarikar (pictured left) at the recent Star Screen Awards, it seems the industry has gone against Sajid and are all supporting Ashu.

Even Sajid's sister Farah Khan, who intervened to sort out the matters on the stage, is not able to clear the air.

Subhash Ghai has gone a step ahead and is sending a text message to everyone in his phone book, The SMS reads: “All respected filmmakers and artistes fully support Ashutosh Gowarikar's stand to speak on Screen awards against the cheap and humiliating jokes on industry people in public, where they are supposed to honour the contestants and the winners... it was height of making commercial awards function as a cheap entertainment show at the cost of celebrities, artistes and individuals. Industry shall stop going to attend such functions in future if such arrogance continues."

To update those not in know, the verbal fight between Sajid and Ashutosh took place during the awards function in Mumbai on January 14.

As a co-host of the Star Screen Awards, along with his sister Farah, Sajid had been cracking jokes at the expense of many celebrities. When Ashutosh Gowarikar came on stage to accept his award, he voiced his displeasure at Sajid’s humour and also the fact that he was not allowing many award winners to give an acceptance speech. He also said that the people would rather listen to the artistes than Sajid’s jokes.

When Sajid told him that the jokes were part of the script, Ashu asked him to shut up and walked off. Not one to take such a thing lying low, Sajid put in the last word by saying, “Nobody’s father can ask me to shut up”.

"Shah Rukh thought I wasn't provided food" - Shahid Kapur

This weekend on 'Sajid Superstars', it is Shahid Kapoor's turn to get candid as he talks about his personal as well as professional life. While he shares little known facts about his early days in the world of glitz and glamour, he also reasons that there has to be a line drawn between personal and professional life.

- One of the early incidents that Shahid narrates on the show is set in the time when he was working with Shiamak Davar's dance troupe. Shah Rukh Khan once dropped in at a show and on seeing Shahid, he immediately questioned Shiamak if he didn't feed his troupe members well. Reason behind the question? Shahid was quite thin and lanky in his early days and was nowhere close to as well built as he is today. Coming back to the comment, Shahid took it quite personally and started working hard on his body.

- Shahid also talks about how he lacked confidence in his teenage years due to his physique. His confidence did get a boost though when his first music video was out. Ever famous 'Aankhon Mein Tera Hi Chehra' featured him along with his then girlfriend Hrishita Bhatt and gained quite some popularity for itself. One day he saw some girls talking about the video and exclaiming 'Oh so cute'. He obviously thought that the compliments were for him but on close hearing, he realized that they were talking about the dog in the video!

- Another fact from the past which is revealed is about his dance performance alongside Aishwarya Rai years back. It is not known to all but the fact is that in the movie Taal, he was one of the background dancers from Shiamak Davar's troupe for the number 'Kahin Aag Lage Lag Jaaye'!

- Apparently. there was no love lost between Fardeen Khan and Shahid Kapoor during the shooting of Fida (which incidentally also starred Kareena Kapoor), Sajid Khan questions him on what had gone wrong.

- There are light moments in the show as well as the Sania Mirza reference comes in, though in a subtle manner. As Shahid disclosed that Tennis is his favorite sport with Federer and Martina Navratilova being his favorite tennis players, Sajid cheekily asked him if there was some 'young Indian female tennis player' who was his favorite!

- Shahid mentioned though that a line had to be drawn between one's personal life and professional life and maintained that one had to do a balancing act to get things moving.

- In one of the most popular sections of 'Sajid Superstars', Shahid's best and worst scenes from chosen from Jab We Met and Vaah Life Ho To Aisi respectively. Any guesses around these scenes?

- He was politically correct when asked to choose the better dancer between him and Hrithik Roshan. Though he managed to dodge the query and come out unscathed, there is some fun in store as Sajid's own performance on the number 'Tamma Tamma Loge' [Thandedaar] in a college function would be showcased for the first time on television.

- About his personal life, Shahid admitted that he was a vegetarian by choice. He also confessed that he is actually quite a boring person. He was also asked that if he was not successful as an actor, would he have been an architect or a doctor? Any guesses around what would Shahid' have opted for?

- Last but not the least; an interesting trivia was unearthed on the show. While Shahid has worked with Sanjay Dutt in Vaah Life Ho To Aisi, his mother too has acted with Sanju baba a few years back!

Keep jogging your memory cells as 'Sajid Superstars' brings an answer to this and a lot more at 8:00 PM, Saturday on the newly launched channel COLORS!

KJo does a Shilpa!

Karan Johar and Sajid Khan hosted the Zee Awards in London on Saturday. The duo did the Richard Gere and Shilpa Shetty kiss sequence where Karan played Shilpa and Sajid was Gere.

Shilpa, who was present there, had a blast watching the re-enaction. KJo and Sajid also sang Aap Jaisa Koi to Rekha and Zeenat Aman.

Another special moment was when a frail Feroz Khan walked onto the stage to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award, while a teary-eyed crowd watched on.

Shah Rukh (for Chak De! India) got Best Actor, Kareena, the Best Actress (for Jab We Met). Chak De! India took home the Best Film award and Aamir Khan bagged Best Director for Taare Zameen Par.

It was an awkward moment for everyone when Amole Gupte went to receive the Best Screenplay award for Taare Zameen Par and thanked everyone but Aamir!

When Chunky reminded Amole that he had forgotten Aamir’s name, Amole just walked off the stage. KJo and Sajid gave away 15 mobile phones to the audience in a Q&A interactive session.

Sajid-Karan to host Zee Awards

They say, love changes…everything…similarly success also changes…Everything. Host-cum-dost Sajid Khan's prowess as super-hit director which got noticed with his debut film, Heyy Babyy, has rubbed off big time on his confidence and timing as entertainment world's premiere host as was evident at the Star Screen Awards this year. He will be back to hosting another big event and that too with another superstar Compere, Karan Johar, at the Zee Cine Awards in London on April 26th 2008. “Yes, we are hosting it together,” Sajid confirmed to us.

This is for the first time that Sajid and Karan will be hosting a show together. So, have you planned something unique and different to surprise and entertain the audience? “I can't talk about it right now. But yes, Karan hasn't hosted a show with a male host before and nor have I. I respect and admire Karan.”

Sajid has another ace up his sleeve as he is all set to host a chat show on a new TV Channel (name yet to be disclosed). “The show is called Sajid's Superstar.” We've heard it is somewhat similar to Karan Johar's Koffee with Karan. “It is absolutely different. It has many fun oriented rounds. It's in Hindi and the duration of the show is 1 hour.”

Alright, let's talk about Sajid, the filmmaker. Well, after the humungous success of Heyy Babyy, Khan will get busy with Houseful, a romantic comedy by the end of the year. The cast already includes Akshay Kumar, Deepika Padukone, Jiah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh. So, Sajid, what is it about Houseful that you haven't shared with a journalist so far? “I shall be finalizing the music director of the film soon. I am hunting for a heroine and a big actor.” Any idea who the big actor may be? “If I tell you the hunt will be over,” Sajid said with a chuckle.

Sajid Khan's next stars Akshay, Deepika and Riteish

He is humorous and so was his film. Sajid Khan set the Bollywood charts high with his directorial debut. He is now all set repeat it again with his forthcoming flick for which he signed Akshay Kumar and Deepika Padukone.

After Chandni Chowk to China, this will be Akshay and Deepika's second film together. Sajid not only repeats Akshay alone but also Riteish Deshmukh and Sajid Nadiadwala for his second film. “The film is yet to be titled and I need to talk to some other stars as well. It is going to be a multistarrer,” says an exhilarated Sajid Khan. The film will also have two more heroines and one more hero.

“The film will go on floor by the end of the year and its going to be a romantic comedy. It's not on the lines of Heyy Babyy and it is for sure going to be the biggest hit film of 2009,” Sajid confidently adds.

Multiple heroines in Sajid's next

What’s the cast of Sajid Khan’s new film? Well, everyone knows it will star Akshay Kumar in the lead, but the balance cast is being kept under wraps. While Sajid’s directorial debut was a multi-hero film, his next venture is expected to be multi-heroine film. It’s said that Sajid and his producer Sajid Nadiadwala are in talks with Kareena Kapoor, Vidya Balan and Deepika Padukone to essay the three pivotal roles.

“I wouldn’t be able to confirm the leading ladies right now, but we’re talking to a couple of names,” Sajid Khan informs me. What’s the film all about? “It’s a family fare with laughter aplenty. It’s a laugh-riot and I want it to be Akshay’s biggest hit ever,” Sajid smiles.

Sajid plans to start filming in mid-2008. “I am still writing the script and it will take me another three/four months to complete it. The dates of the actors will be chalked out accordingly,” he adds.

Smita Thackeray's cause gets Bollywood on their toes

Smita Thackeray's Mukti Foundation's Ten on 9X Anti-Aids concert at MMRDA Grounds on Dec 1, World Aids Day, was a huge success with the stars turning up in droves. There was Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Lara Dutta, Udita Goswami, Sajid Khan, Kailash Kher, Sunidhi Chauhan and a whole horde of performers besides little kids from different social organizations. Dharmendra, Ranbir Kapoor, Priya Dutt, Madhur Bhandarkar, Abbas Mustan, Annu Malik, Dalip Tahil, Rajpal Yadav, Aditi Gowitrikar, Peter and Indrani Mukherjea among others graced the occasion and spoke for the cause and Smita Thackeray's movement.

While Saif was content dancing and watching the programme with his son, Dharmendra complimented Smita on her movement and proudly donned a Aids Day badge from Smita. Shah Rukh took to stage and danced to OSO number. But even when the song went smart boys and girls and SRK pleaded boys to the left and girls to the right, the kids just wouldn't let him go

Salman, despite a sore throat, gave a thought-provoking speech and said, "Using condoms was cool", while Sajid was his usual humorous self. Actor Rajveer of Smita Thackeray's KAISE KAHEIN was happy being at the event and lending his best. His act had to be cancelled as he hurt his foot during rehearsals. Sunidhi, Udita and Lara gyrated to the music sending the audiences swooning, while Smita Thackeray was very happy at the "stars supporting and standing for the worthy cause." She also honoured ten organizations that provided yeomen service to society on this occasion of ten years of completion of Mukti Foundation.
