V-Day Sp: Sizzling Couples in Love

It is that amorous time of the year again where expressing your love is a compulsion. With Valentine's Day just around the corner, we bring you Bollywood's hottest couples who haven't tied the knot as yet.

Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan: They are Bollywood royalty. She is a Kapoor and his father is the Nawab of Pataudi. She is a flawless beauty and he is drop-dead-hot and handsome. Together they make a madly-in-love couple with crackling chemistry. It was on the sets of the disastrous Tashan that their romance blossomed. Kareena looked so gorgeous in the movie that Saif couldn't help but be drawn to her. They have eyes only for each other and aren't afraid of showing how much they adore one another. You want to fall in love just looking at them. Saif wants to tie the knot now but Bebo's saying 'not now'.

Bipasha Basu and John Abraham: Dating for over five years now, this sizzling twosome has stood the test of time. Romance blossomed on the sets of Aetbaar and the two set the screen on fire with their unrestrained passion in Jism. The good looking fitness freaks complement each other really well. She is a smokin' hot Bong tigress and he is a Bawa boy with the body of a Greek God. They are a mature couple who have left their PDA days behind and are too secure about each other to be affected by malicious rumours.

Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone: Ah, young love. She is a leggy supermodel-turned-actress with enchanting doe eyes. He is Bollywood’s Prince Charming who could sweep any girl off her feet. It was a double whammy for them at the Filmfare Awards in 2008. Not only did they win best debut awards, they also secured each other's affection. The two bonded in picturesque Australia while shooting for Bachna Ae Haseeno. The photogenic twosome is so much in love that they cannot keep their hands off each other, even in public.

Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra: These two, who will feature together in Kaminay, are rumoured to be going out. And they have adorable nicknames for each other: Peefee and Shaks. They share a hot kiss in the film so it’s no wonder a hot romance started off-screen too. Priyanka was having a hard time with Harman and Shahid wasn't really dating anyone after his breakup with Kareena. They stay in the same building and spent a lot of time bonding on and off the sets. The two are fiercely private people so the relationship is still under wraps. But their chemistry in Kaminay will surely tell us all that we need to know.

Preity Zinta and Ness Wadia: She is vivaciously beautiful and he is dashingly debonair. Preity has gone from bubbly to sophisticate ever since she started attending upscale society dos with her good looking boyfriend. They mix business with pleasure as they own a cricket team together and Ness accompanies Preity on her shoots. They aren't into PDA but their sweet gestures such as feeding each other during matches show that they have eyes only for each other.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif: He is over 40, she is over 20 and they are madly in love with each other, though they may not show it. She is a beautiful in-demand newbie in Bollywood while he is the handsome established superstar. Being Salman Khan's girlfriend is not easy, but the composed and dignified lady Kat is, she has managed to play that role with aplomb. Apparently, his family loves Kat too and Salman hasn't been so smitten by anyone before. He wants to settle down but she is in no hurry to with her burgeoning career. Will they or won't they? We will have to wait and watch.

Salman mourns the death of Myson

Everyone knows how close Salman Khan has been to his pet dogs Myjaan and Myson.

“They are my life and I am passionate about them…. They are a part of me, my family and they share my every joy and sorrow. They understand me completely and there is such a big bond I share with them that it moves me beyond words,” he once wrote on his blog.

On Sunday (Feb 8) Salman, who was in Karjat shooting for his upcoming movie “London Dreams”, got a call from home conveying the news of Myson’s death.

The dog had been suffering from a heart ailment and Salman knew that he only had a few months to live. However, he broke down when he hard the news. He sat alone on the sets for sometime and then requested director Vipul Shah to allow him to go home.

Salman went home and buried Myson at his farmhouse in Panvel at night. He then went back to Karjat in the morning and started shooting for the movie.

Even though it was a personal loss for him, Salman decided be a thorough professional and not cancel the shoot.

Do Stars really live up to their names

They say the name of a child determines the way they live the rest of their lives. So when Prithviraj Kapoor names his son Raj, years later Raj Kapoor did in fact rule Bollywood. Kishore means a ‘young boy’ and if we look at Kishore Kumar this can’t be truer for anyone else!

We take a look at our current lot of top Bollywood actors and see whether they have kept true to their name:

Shah Rukh Khan - The Face of a King
SRK is the closest that anyone can come to living their name. His mother may have named him thinking that he had the face of a King and today millions of fan all over the world agree. No wonder then the superstar is living the life of a true king – big palatial homes, hit movies, huge bank balance and a reign in Bollywood that is truly King size!

Hrithik Roshan – From the Heart
Known to take decisions instinctively and working from the heart and not the head are some of the ways that one can describe this light eyed superstar. Hrithik shot to super stardom with just his first film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai. And after that there has been no looking back for him. Working in films that are produced by papa Rakesh, Hrithik is definitely working from the heart and not by the bank balance!

Akshay Kumar - Eternal, immortal, indestructible
Khiladi Kumar’s name signifies what we have seen Akshay do in his nineteen years in the industry. Fight the odds, kick some serious butt in his films and perform death defying stunts have been synonymous with Kumar’s films. And despite coming from a family with no connection in Bollywood, Akki has gone on to become one of the most successful and richest stars at the Bollywood box office!

Aamir Khan – Prince, Ruler or Commander
Aamir falls a little short of Shah Rukh. While SRK’s name means the face of a king, Aamir’s name means a prince or a commander. And don’t we know all about it! The actor has managed to maintain his command in Bollywood. In a highly competitive industry, Khan stuck to his guns and only worked in one film a year and he has yet created his niche in the industry. For many he is the rules of Bollywood.

Salman Khan – Protector, Conqueror
Salman’s means to protect or conquer. And in the case of the man we all love to hate, this definitely holds true. The actor is extremely protective of all the people in his life. Whether it was his mother, sister, lover or ex-girlfriends, the actor has always been fiercely protective. And at the same time he has loved conquering the women that most men knew were definitely out of their reach!
Another connotation of Salman is also peace and don’t we all know about Salman’s passion for world peace. No wonder he started the Being Human Foundation!

Farhan Akhtar – Merry, Happy
Bollywood’s latest poster boy Farhan’s name means to be happy. And have we ever seen Farhan not smiling? The actor-director has an amazing sense of humour, is the life of the party and is one of the most loved people in the industry.

Sallu bhai get your trainer back!

Salman Khan, the original six-packs of Bollywood, doesn’t feel the need for a personal trainer. Unlike his colleagues in the industry, Khan hasn’t used a personal trainer for the past two years and its no wonder then that Sallu is now seen sporting a paunch and losing his taut physique.

"Earlier he used to have a personal trainer Manish Advilkar who trained him for 6 years starting from 2001.He doesn't have any fixed personal trainer anymore…. He now works out on his on. Every morning depending on his own timings he will exercise… sometimes it happens even at 2 am in the morning! His routine is not fixed either and depends on his shootings,” says a source close to the star.

“There is no fixed time of his work-outs as woh apne marzi ka malik hain. It all depends on his mood. Sometimes he will cycle from Bandra to his Panvel farm house or sometimes he will go to gold Gym in Bandra. In case a fan comes up for an autograph they have to wait till he finishes his workout. He loves home-cooked food but at same he eats lots of chicken and has B-protein powder in his milk,” adds the source.

Salman Khan was the quintessential hot bod of the industry. But of late the actor’s wild lifestyle seems to have caught up with him. The six pack abs is now replaced by a paunch. He has had numerous hair weaves and his puffy eyes don’t represent the superstar we all loved to see take his shirt off till some years back!

Salman's dream home on hold

Salman wanted to build a dream home for himself at Carter Road. But he is facing certain problems.

Our source tells us, "Salman wanted to buy the plot where Starlet building stands on Carter Road. So he managed to buy most of the flats by offering its inhabitants a very good price but the people on the ground floor were not ready to move. So that was creating problems for quite a few months now."

He further adds, "Salman wanted to gift a flat to Katrina in the new building he would construct."

Salman actually wanted to build a lavish bungalow on the plot but construction rules forced him to change his plans to build a high rise there. But he now has to build a five storied building there because the sea facing area comes under the jurisdiction of the Coastal Regulation Zone and Environment Notification Act of 1996. According to this act, no construction activities should harm the environment or upset oceanographic eco-systems.

Salman's spokesperson denies Salman's plans of a constructing a building. "Salman isn't building a new house. His family already had flats there and they will get them back after the building is renovated,” he says.

On Set: London Dreams in Chandigarh

From London to Paris and now finally Chandigarh, London dreams has moved the shoot near Kurali railway station, in Chandigarh. This is the last leg of major shooting for the film. Sallu reportedly stopped shooting for his forthcoming film Veer, to shoot for London Dreams. Vipul Shah plans on shooting between January 5 and January 16. A few song sequences have been squeezed into the schedule as well.

The movie, London Dreams is about a rock band based in London. The protagonists, Slaman Khan and Ajay Devgan, play childhood friends in the film. The film is set to release on August 14th, 2009

Chal Mere Bhai: Ajay seems to have some grip on Salman.

Jat bana Salman: If Salman plays the man in a turban; does Ajay play the man in tight pants?

All smiles: Behind this pretty face is there really a stubborn, tantrum-throwing actress?

Lighting it up… … with a cigarette: Ajay takes pleasure in lighting up on screen… and in real life.

Untouched, uncaring: Devgan seems to be oblivious to the ban on smoking in public places.

Jerry Maguire remake with SRK, Salman off

Salman and Shah Rukh Khan were to star in the remake of Tom Cruise starrer Jerry Maguire. The film has now been called off because of their infamous fight and the standoff that still continues.

Our source tells us, "News of the pair starring in the remake broke out in early 2008. Salman's brother Sohail wanted to remake the iconic film with the two Khans and had the script ready as well. Salman would play a larger than life and whacky sportsman filling in Cuba Gooding Jr's shoes whereas SRK would fill in Tom Cruise's shoes as an ambitious sports agent. No actress had been cast to play Cruise's love interest, Dorothy's role. SRK was busy with Rab Ne and Salman was busy with Main aur Mrs Khanna, Hello and a couple of other films in mid 2008. The duo had an infamous fight on Katrina Kaif's birthday in July and has not been on talking terms since. So, obviously plans of the remake have been canned."

Sohail Khan's spokesperson tells us, "He never wanted to make a film with both of them aur abhi toh dono ke saath film nahi ban sakti. As of now, Sohail is busy with his own productions like Kissan, Main aur Mrs. Khanna and a couple of others."

Salman and SRK have shared screen space in blockbusters like Karan Arjun and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. They were also there in Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam with Madhuri Dixit. The duo had a fight on the sets of Chalte Chalte in 2002 when Salman barged in to meet Aishwarya Rai who was co-starring with SRK in the film. As a result of this, SRK replaced Ash with Rani Mukerji. The duo made up during Farha Khan's sangeet in 2004. All was well with them till they fought on Katrina Kaif's birthday party in July 2008. It seems Salman had approached SRK for an item song in Main aur Mrs Khanna but the latter refused, then the two argued who was the bigger star and SRK made an unpleasant remark about Aishwarya Rai which didn't go down well with Salman.

About Jerry Maguire
Released in 1996, the film was a worldwide blockbuster. The romantic-comedy-drama revolves around the downfall of ambitious sports agent Jerry Maguire (Cruise) and his comeback to the top with the help of his sole client, the whacky Rod Tidwell (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and his assistant turned love interest, Dorothy (Renee Zellweger). The film was nominated for Best Actor, Best Film, Best Screenplay and Best Editing. Cuba Gooding Jr. won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

The New Year eve plans of Bollywood stars

With 2009 just around the corner, Bollywood stars are headed to different destinations to usher in the New Year.

Since the mood in Mumbai is pretty glum after the November 26 terror attacks, most of the New Year performances in the city have been canceled. Moreover, even the stars who would normally stay put in Mumbai on Dec 31 are headed to exotic locales.

Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor are on their way for a chilled out vacation in the Swiss Alps. Hope there are no bhel puri restaurants there to give Saif the stomach cramps.

Akshay Kumar is already on a holiday with wife Twinkle Khanna , son Aarav and Dimple Kapadia and his mom Aruna. For them, the celebrations began on Dec 29 with Twinkle’s birthday and will continue till the January 1.

Shilpa Shetty is on a vacation with her beau Raj Kundra in Spain. Alongside the duo are their respective families.

Salman Khan along with his brothers is in Goa for the New Years. The celebrations, low-key this year, began in the Khan household from Salman’s birthday on Dec 27 and will continue well into the first few days of January.

Katrina Kaif has been in London for the Christmas reunion with her family and is expected to join Salman on 31st evening.

Malaika Arora would be performing on stage at a hotel in Singapore, while Celina Jaitley will perform at the New Year bash at City Pavilion in London.

Arjun Rampal , Farhan Akhtar , Ritesh Sidhwani and the rest of Rock On gang is headed to Dubai. They initially planned an outing in Goa but changed the plan after the government canceled outdoor parties.

Shahrukh Khan is in Los Angeles to shoot Karan Johar’s film My Name Is Khan . He, Gauri and the kids are likely to fly to Uganda for a brief holiday.

Kajol and Ajay Devgan have left for their farmhouse in Karjat. They are expected back on Jan 2 after which Kajol would fly to the US to shoot with SRK.

John Abraham and Bipasha Basu will most likely head to Goa. Looks like they don’t mind if there aren’t any outdoor parties.

'Bollywood 2009" predicts numerologist Niraj Mancchanda

Numeroloigst Niraj Mancchanda gives us his predictions for some of the biggest stars in Bollywood for 2009 including Hrithik Roshan, Shah Rukh Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Aamir Khan. According to Niraj, 2009 is going to be Aamir's year! Read on to find out what is in store for your favorite stars!

Hrithik Roshan will be loved in Kites. First three days of the movie's opening will be phenomenal. Hrithik should consider adding the letter 'c' in his name so it spells Hrithick Roshan. This will help him avoid accidents and injuries. His name presently comes to number 43, same as Amitabh Bachchan and we all know that Big B has also had health issues.

Niraj goes on to say that Harman Baweja will be appreciated in Victory, Abhishek Bachchan will be loved in Delhi 6 and Ranbir Kapoor's first hit movie will likely be Rajniti. Apart from these three films, their other releases are not expected to do so well at the box office. He recommends that Harman spell his name as Harrmann Bawejaa. However, if he has decided to stick to the original spelling, and added S in middle (S for Singh, as he is Sikh) Harman S Baweja, this will help him succeed to some extent. As for the other two, Abhishek should use his father's initial and be Abhishek A Bachchan and Ranbir should spell his name as Raanbir or Raanbier Kapoor which should come as good luck in their career growth. If they decide to stick to their original spellings, their career could always be cyclic with huge variables of more flops than hits.

Shah Rukh Khan has two films in 2009 (Billoo Barber and My Name Is Khan). It's a money making year for Shah Rukh as 2009=11=1+1=2 and his number is also 2.

Salman Khan is not going through a good phase as many of his films bombed at the box office in 2008 and many more are expected to in the coming year. He should get the titles of his films strong according to their numerological values. As it is now, most of the titles of his films releasing in 2009 come to unlucky numbers. Katrina Kaif is a very lucky girl for others. However, her string of flops have begun from Yuvvraaj and she will have many more in 2009. Katrina's luck will not be able to neutralise Salman's low phase in 2009.

Kareena Kapoor's number is 3. In 2009, she will have 2 hit movies (3 Idiots and Kambakkth Ishq) but will not get much credit for these films like she got for Jab We Met. Aamir Khan will likely take away all the credit for 3 Idiots and many others will be mentioned for Kambakkth Ishq. It's a good year for her as far as success is concerned but not credit. For the credit, she will have to wait for 2010. If Kareena decides to spell her name as Karrinaa Kapoor, it will make her number 42 (same as Shah Rukh) and this should give her enough luck to churn out ten more Jab We Mets, in terms of success and full credit on her shoulders.

Akshay Kumar's destiny number is 5 which is derived by adding the full date of birth. He turned 41 and so the number 5 has been activated again. His luck has now become cyclic. At this age, he had a hit Welcome and then a flop Tashan and then Singh is Kinng did huge business but entailed losses to many distributors in India due to its high Cost. His next, Chandni Chowk to China, will open well but again, due to its cost, it will entail losses to Warner Brothers or at maximum, manage to recoupe its cost. His only hit in 2009 will be Kambakkth Ishq, which has the same number numerologically as Maine Pyar Kiya and numerologically titled by me. The entire credit for the film's success will go to the lucky producer Sajid Nadiadwala, director Sabbir Khan and Sylester Stallone, and not surprisingly, Aanuu Mallik is expected to start a new cycle, which will take his career to another level. Furthermore, the 100 Crore Blue will be released, which comes to same numerological number as Dil Se, so I do not even have to say its box office merit. According to numbers, he will have many flops after Blue but in 2010, Akshay will once again bounce back to giving many hits but his rollercoaster of hits and flops will continue.

2009 belongs to Aamir Khan. 3 Idiots comes to the same number as Devdas; his wife Kiran's movie Dhobi Ghaat comes to number of Maine Pyar Kiya and his other home production, Delhi Belly which stars his nephew Imran Khan, comes to the same number as Chak De India. Aamir is born on 14/03/1965 = 1+4+3+1+9+6+5 = 29 = 2+9 = 11 = 1+1 = 2 which is his destiny number. Year 2009 is also number 2 and Aamir also completes 20 years of his career as an actor. Therefore, number 2 (his destiny number) will make it the biggest year of his career!

It will be interesting to see how close his predictions come and we do wish luck to the all the unlucky numbered stars of 2009!

Salman parties with Asin and Mallika while Kat's away!

Salman Khan's birthday (December 27) party at his Panvel farmhouse was a low key affair.

It had a gathering of the usual close friends and family except for the presence of Mallika Sherawat, Asin: Salman's London Dreams' leading lady and his Veer heroine Zarine Khan.

Salman certainly didn't seem to be missing girlfriend Katrina Kaif who is visiting family in London for Christmas.

But Sallu couldn't have had it better three gorgeous women vying for his attention at his birthday party.

A source present at the party says, "This time the Khan family had decided that Salman's birthday would be low key compared to his usual rollicking ones as the city is still under the cloud of the 26/11 terrorist attacks.

The birthday boy was heard telling his friends that he would not be inviting many people and yet more than a 100 guests turned up."

Some of Salman's guests included Adnan Sami, Anil Sharma, Aalim, Sajid Nadiadwala, David Dhawan, Ramesh Taurani, Vijay Galani amongst others.

The source adds, "Some stayed back at his sprawling farmhouse while the rest drove back home early yesterday morning.

Salman's mom had whipped up some 15 dishes including mutton paya and biryani and all the guests had a feast. The Khans are known for their superb hospitability."

The source says Salman broke one of his golden rules this time before his birthday. "Bhai never shoots after December 20 and takes a break till New Year but when his Veer director Anil Sharma told him the film wasn't complete, the actor cancelled his holiday plans and stayed back to complete the shot. He has done this for the first time in years."

Salman to spend birthday at his farmhouse

It was rumored that Salman would be flying out of the country for his birthday and New Year celebrations but that is not the case. Salman is currently shooting for Veer at Film City but he will take a day off tomorrow.

A source close to Salman tells us, "Salman will have a party at his farmhouse in Panvel with his close family and friends on his birthday."

He further adds, "We all know that Salman is a family man and he loves to party. Biryani and kebabs are definitely on the menu. Salman will play host to all their friends from the industry.”

It has almost become a ritual for the superstar to head to his Panvel farmhouse for his birthday. The actor heads there every year on Christmas Eve and stays there till a day after his birthday.

The guest list for Salman’s party tomorrow night is said to include dad Salim Khan, mom Salma, step mom Helen, sisters Alvira and Arpita, brother Sohail, Arbaaz and their families. His staff members will also be there as Salman values them a lot. David Dhawan, Aamir Khan, Subhash Ghai, Anil Kapoor and Ajay Devgan are also expected.

However, this year girlfriend Katrina Kaif will be missing from the do. She is currently holidaying with her family in London and is expected back only in January.

Salman is really fond of his farmhouse in Panvel. He often cycles there from Mumbai with his bodyguards following him in cars. After the shooting of Yuvvraaj wrapped up earlier this year, Salman and Katrina threw a lavish wind up bash for their cast and crew members over there.

Wishing Salman Khan a very Happy Birthday

Known as the man with a golden heat, yet with a hint of bad anger, he has wooed Bollywood for over two decades he has today turned 43.

With his latest interest in the expressive art form of painting he has quite literally managed to paint not just the town but entire Bollywood red and all shades of colours. The birthday boy for today as you may have already guesses is none other than Salman Khan.

Starting his career with Biwi Ho To Aisi in '88, Salman soon became the heartthrob of the nation. With his youthful looks and his well toned body he had directors lining up at his doors. Not long after he was at pinnacle of Bollywood and touted as the best, most watched loved and adored celebrity.

Sallu as he is fondly known is even today regarded as one bright star shining forth for friends and foe alike, keeping differences apart and helping when most needed. Though he has been embroiled with a multitude of controversies the golden heart boy has managed to surmount them with ease and emerge victorious.

College principal stops Salman from stripping!

Students wanted him to take off his T-shirt

Salman Khan recently attended the college festival organised by MMK College in Juhu, Mumbai, patronised by politician Baba Siddique.

Since Baba has been very close to Salman right from his college days, he roped in Sallu for the college festival.

Forget the students misbehaving; it was the media which went out of control when they saw Salman. He looked dashing and sported a cute pony tail. As soon as he was on stage, he started preaching the students and said how education was important and how one must love each other and help the neighbours. He ended his speech with a funny anecdote - love your neighbour but don't get caught!

He told the students to ask him any question except when he was getting married. The students only wanted him to remove his T-shirt. They went on and on, but Salman refused. He once again started preaching them and even said that he used to hang out at MMK College all the time.

Salman also said he was sent to many schools as a student.

The students once again started screaming for his T-shirt and that’s when Salman said: "Nowadays Aamir is removing his T-shirt.”

Meanwhile, the college principal went up on the stage and warned the students not to request him to strip. He said: “This is college and no one strips here!”

Sallu finds a new home

Salman Khan has all of a sudden become a workaholic. He has been shooting straight hours and working more than...probably ever! Recently, the actor who was shooting for Wanted Dead Or Alive in Berlin was returning home and since he was running late, he had to directly rush to Film City for the shoot of his film Veer. And the actor did not even complain! It is also rumoured that Boney Kapoor had hired this special chartered flight for Salman so that he could get back home as soon as possible.

Despite jet lag, Salman rushed to the sets of Veer in his make-up van which was waiting for him outside the airport.

A source revealed, "Salman reached the sets of Veer directly. He greeted everyone and started shooting almost immediately. Finally he took a two hour break and rested in his van before continuing with the remaining shoot for the day. He shot till ten in the night."

The source further added, "Salman is very motivated about his dream venture Veer. The film is very close to his heart. He is making sure that there's no delay in the schedule because of him."

We also heard that to save time traveling from his Bandra residence to Film City, the actor has been hitting the gym at Whistling Woods close to the sets of Veer. Looks like the make up van has finally become his second home!

I haven't met Salman yet: Lisa Lazarus

Miss Universe UK 2008 Lisa Lazarus is all set to make a Bollywood debut in Salman Khan's Veer. She tells us about herself and her Bollywood ambitions.

Tell us about yourself.

I am easy to be with and have managed to keep myself grounded in spite of all the glamour and fame. I have been modeling since I was a child because I was very tall even then. Then I won my first beauty pageant when I was 16 and continued to take part in and win several pageants. I have also done several ad campaigns and ramp shows. I am currently the ambassador for the World Peace Mission.

How did you become a part of Veer?

When I won the Miss Universe UK pageant in May, I got a lot of publicity worldwide. So the producers had seen my footage and they liked my pictures. I fit the bill of the British girl they were looking for perfectly and I didn't even have to audition for it so I grabbed the opportunity with both hands

Did you read the script? What is your role in the film?

I have read the script and I think it is an absolutely amazing story line about love and its complications and a lot of other things. The movie is set in the 1890s. It is very grand and everything is exaggerated: the sets, the costumes, the hair and the acting. I play Angela, a young British girl who comes to India with her father and gets lost in the jungle. So Salman finds me and becomes my hero. I fall in love with him even and we get a bit close. I have to try hard to get his affection because he is already in love with someone else.

What do you think about Salman Khan?

Actually I haven't met him yet. We have been communicating through other people. I have never heard anyone saying anything bad about him so he seems to be an amazing guy. I will meet him today as he has returned from Greece and we will start shooting for Veer.

How are you preparing for the role? Is it tough?

I am learning Hindi and am rehearsing my dance routines non-stop so that I am absolutely prepared when we start shooting. I find the pronunciations tough but I am getting there. Namaste is all I can say. The hard work for this film will be worth it.

Have you seen any Hindi films?

Yes I have but I don't remember the names. Bollywood stars and movies are very popular in the UK; I think I know more about Bollywood than Hollywood. I like Salman's recent movie with Katrina and the other one where he is roaming around on the beach in his Speedo.

What do you think about Katrina? Have you met her?

I think she is an absolutely beautiful woman and one of my idols at the moment. I have seen her on Vogue and I would to follow in her footsteps.

How do you like India?

I have been here for four days and I absolutely love it. I feel relaxed and at home. There has been no culture shock for me. Everyone is so kind and always willing to help. I feel settled here and very safe. I don't like hot food, so the hotel guys made this mild chicken curry for me and I loved it.

What would you have been, if not a model or actress?

It is every child's dream to be a model or an actress and I am living my dream. For back up, I have a degree in Radiography which is the study of X-rays so I can work in a hospital if I want to.

Do you have any dream roles?

I loved Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, she is my favourite actress. I would love to do a Bond film because they are so popular the world over but then without the songs and dancing, they are not as fun as Hindi films.

Do you have any previous acting experience?

I have done theatre and presented a few TV shows. I am very comfortable in front of the camera.

What are your hobbies?

I like to play golf, though I get bored easily and don't play much. I like listening to pop music and Britney and the Pussycat Dolls are my favourite singers. I love the Hindi songs they play at clubs back in the UK, you can dance anyhow and it looks good because the songs are great.

Is Bollywood a one-off thing or are you here to stay?

Veer is an amazing start and new experience for me. I love meeting people from different, countries, cultures and religions. I love India and don't want to leave so I hope more opportunities come up and I establish myself here.

Salman’s disappearing act

It is believed that producer Boney Kapoor used to have butterflies in his stomach when his lead actor Salman Khan used to run off early in the evening from the sets of Wanted Dead Or Alive . But what made Salman do that? If you think he used to spend evenings partying with his friends then you are wrong.

Salman was shooting in Greece with actor turned director Prabhu Deva for Wanted Dead Or Alive . “He loved the natural beauty that Greece had to offer and that inspired Salman Bhai to get into some landscape painting. He used to disappear in the evening from the set as soon as they finished the shoot. Salman thoroughly enjoyed painting in Greece,” reveals a unit hand.

Apparently Salman, who has earlier made semi religious paintings, has changed his style. This is for the first time he indulged in landscape painting which he has never done before.

It is believed that a painter conveys his feelings through his paintings, it’s only after we have a look at Sallu’s paintings that we understand what he is trying to convey!

Stars will have to come to terms with pay cuts

Pay cuts are an eventuality with which stars will have to come to terms.

Caught in choppy market, hit by an economic tsunami - world's largest film industry, Bollywood is also facing rough weather. The boat is rocking. Big budget projects are folding up, expansion plans are being kept on hold and worst of all corporate houses are calling off their fancy multi-film contracts. But are stars affected by this sudden bubble burst? Most importantly will they also take pay-cuts like the rest of working class?

Senior chartered accountant Satish Pai declares ominously,"This is just the begining of the meltdown, it will continue for the next five years and financial scene will be really grim in the years to come. Very soon the biggest star will definitely have to take a pay cut," he stresses.

In the last three years, ever since corporate funding flushed into filmdom, talent cost shot up. Stars witnessed a euphoric hike in their fees, "Shah Rukh Khan was the only star who had seen that kind of money earlier and that too because he used to have 50 per cent partnership in his films.

But with the corporate boom - even second-rung actors clinched plum multi-crore deals," trade analyst N P Yadav points out.

So does it really mean that even Salman Khan, Akshay Kumar and Sanjay Dutt - the three stars who benefitted the most by the corporate boom-will have to revise their charges? "They will have to slash their fees or stick to working in films made under their own banners,"declares analyst Vinod Mirani. While Akshay Kumar laughs off his enviable Rs 60 crore tag as "way too bloated", Salman Khan brushes off the possibility of cutting his price saying,"Recession is for those who overcharge and certainly not for me who works hard and honestly. I charge what I deserve. So where is the question of slashing my price?" he counters.

On the other hand, Sanjay Dutt admits, "When the going was good, I took a handsome price. But when there is a downslide, I am prepared to face a pay cut. Why only me, all of us will have to play it to the market mood," he adds sportingly.

Irrfan, the poster boy of new-wave mid-budget cinema informs that the budgets of two of his UTV films have been "re-negotiated" but he argues that he never shot up his charges so he's not "cutting down" his price. However he concedes, "For an appropriate project, I am game for a slight cut."

Trade insiders have it that the only stars who have never been in the "rat-race" and are above the recession are Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan because unlike their contemporaries they never hiked their prices disproportionately. Ajay Devgan, who also had stoically held his own and commanded a steady market price even after Golmaal turned out to be a hit, has surprisingly chosen these troubled times to hike his fees, "After the success of Golmaal Returns he is contemplating raising his price," said his spokesperson, Parag Desai.

If the male bastion is facing the axe, the going doesn't look too good for the female of the species,"The first to succumb to recession will be the girls. It doesn't make too much difference if you cast a newbie opposite Salman Khan," reasons Vinod Mirani.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, one of the highest-paid actors agrees,"The economic crisis has touched every person's life, and we will all deal with it in whatever way it hits us. I do not know much about the business aspects of films, but work wise, so far so good."

Vidya Balan's business manager K S Sanjay explains,"Vidya is known as a reasonably-priced actor. We always knew this was a bubble that would burst and we always charged a fee that was viable for filmmakers. So we remain unaffected it," he says firmly.

Newcomer Sadaa, who has a few Southern hits to her credit and makes her Hindi debut with Khalballi, elaborates, "If producers ask me to cut down my fees because of the recession, I will surely consider doing so provided the story and director are good enough. The number of films I act in doesn't depend on how much I am paid," she stresses. And Bengal-import Rituparna Sengupta is also prepared for the eventuality of "cut " as she feels it is a global phenomenon and everyone will have to face the brunt.

Veteran actor Farooque Shaikh is of the view that "only the highest-paid actors will be affected" while Sonu Sood, whose Ek Vivaah - aisi bhi released recently is open for a pay-cut,"Together we should bail out the industry out of this crisis," he suggests.

While multi-crore, multi-film deals have been put on backburners by corporate companies and it seems like an uphill task for actors, the importance of big stars and grand cinema cannot be undermined. With mushrooming multiplexes all over the country, super stars and super cinema will continue to rule. As of now, we do not know of a single instance where a star has gone back on his contract and corrected his remuneration. No one has been really "cut to size" so far!

M.F. Husain loves 'Yuvvraaj'

Subhash Ghai has found a new fan in M.F Husain. The legendary painter is so impressed by Ghai's latest offering “Yuvvraaj” that not only has he watched it twice in the theatre but has also offered to make a painting on the movie.

Ghai's multi-starrer has received mixed reviews everywhere, but it is Husain's appreciation of the movie that has Ghai feeling honoured.

When contacted, the renowned painter was all praise for the movie: “‘Yuvvraaj’ is the kind of movie we get to see once in many years. I have always been extremely fond of Subhashji's work and ‘Yuvvraaj’ is one of the finest movies I have seen in a long time. I wonder on what basis are the people criticising the movie; I feel it is a beautifully made film with extremely melodious music and some brilliant performances."

"Yuvvraaj has been a marvellous experience. I am flattered by Hussainji's appreciation for the movie. It is an honour to hear such words of appreciation from a legend like M.F Husain. I am also very deeply moved by his offer to make a painting on ‘Yuvvraaj’; this is by far the biggest compliment I have received on this movie," said Ghai.
