Bebo as bridesmaid

Amrita Arora is getting married on March 6, and Kareena Kapoor’s all set for her best friend’s wedding.

Why not? We heard Bebo will be Ammu’s bridesmaid. Kareena is trying to take out time from her tight schedule to help the bride. Not just that. Bebo herself has made the rounds to the best stores in town and
co-ordinated with the best fashion designers to design her gown. Although, Amrita will be the maiden of the night, we are eager to watch Kareena in her ‘gown’ing glory!

Amrita Arora's wedding plans

Harman adds fuel to rumour of affair with Amrita Rao

Adding fuel to rumours of an affair with Amrita Rao, actor Harman Baweja played the perfect escort to his "Victory" co-star at a promotional event at a jewellery shop in Mumbai.

"Where's Amrita? I need to escort her; otherwise she will get crammed with people," Harman told officials at the event.

The actors were at a jewellery showroom and fans were eagerly waiting for them outside the shop to get autographs. It was then that Harman caught hold of Amrita's hand and led her away from the crowd.

Kareena, family and friends go to midnight mass at St Andrews

Bebo and family attended Xmas mass at a different church, as Mt Mary was too crowded

Kareena Kapoor and her group couldn't attend the midnight mass at Mt Mary's church this year because of the heavy crowds. Instead they ended up going to another church in Bandra St Andrew's.

Bebo was accompanied by sister Karisma along with mother Babita and Saif Ali Khan. Kareena's best friend Amrita Arora and her fiance Shakeel Ladak, Dino Morea and Lara Dutta. Arbaaz and Malaika Khan (with their son Arhaan) and the Arora girls' parents were also there.

Kareena explains, "We had to go to St Andrew's as we couldn't get seats at Mt Mary. It was extremely crowded. Normally our driver goes and reserves some seats earlier, but this year he couldn't even do that. My mom has bad knees and she can't stand for long, so we went to St Andrew's. It was very quiet and peaceful there."

Amrita adds, "My family and I have always gone to St Andrew's church for midnight mass for Christmas."
After the mass, Kareena and the rest went back to her place for a huge Christmas feast which consisted of roast turkey with stuffing and gravy, jacket potatoes, plum pudding, meat and chicken dishes and marzipan sweets, kalkals and guava cheese as dessert.

Dino and Amrita with their partners went back to their homes for dinner. Later the three couples Malaika Arbaaz, Amrita Shakeel and Dino Lara headed to Aurus for Baba Diwan's party.

Kareena adds, "I have been binging on anything and everything. Diets are off for me now. When I go for my Alpine holidays I am not taking any diet chart with me. I am back to looking curvy and sexy and can eat anything till January 15 after which I resume shooting for Raju Hirani's 3 Idiots."

Golmaal Returns - Movie Review

Two years ago, Rohit Shetty came up with a breezy entertainer GOLMAAL, which, most people agree, is the capable director's finest work to date. The comic scenes hit the right notes and buttons. Perhaps, that must've prompted its producers [Shree Ashtavinayak] and Rohit to continue with the GOLMAAL series.

But GOLMAAL RETURNS treats the viewer like a nitwit, with zero brains. No-brainer laughathons have worked in the past and people have catapulted these films to 'must watch again and again' category. But GOLMAAL RETURNS is simply unbearable!

35 years ago, the Kiran Kumar - Radha Saluja comedy AAJ KI TAZAA KHABAR [1973] is the inspiration for GOLMAAL RETURNS. No issues with that, it's an interesting concept. But screenplay writer Yunus Sajawal makes a mincemeat of the material, so much so that your head starts aching after a point and you want to tear your hair in disgust.

Seriously, what was the writer thinking when he came up with a pathetic screenplay? And how did a talented director like Rohit Shetty agree to ride on it? And how could an accomplished actor like Ajay Devgan green signal this enterprise? Questions, questions, questions...

GOLMAAL RETURNS was never meant to be a thinking man's film, but the attitude is, no-brainer comedies have worked and this one will work too. To give the credit where it's due, a few jokes/sequences involving Tusshar and Shreyas do bring a smile on your face, but in the absence of a tight screenplay, the film falls like a pack of cards.

Final word? Golmaal hai bhai script golmaal hai!

Gopal [Ajay Devgan], who lives with his wife Ekta [Kareena Kapoor], sister Esha [Amrita Arora] and brother-in-law Lucky [Tusshar Kapoor], gets stuck in a yacht after saving an attractive woman Meera [Celina Jaitly] from some goons. Both end up spending the night on the yacht and when he comes home the next day, his painfully suspicious wife, who is also a hardcore fan of the saas-bahu serials, smell fish.

Gopal knows it's going to be hard to quell her suspicion, so he concocts a cock-and-bull story about having stayed the night with a fictitious friend called Anthony Gonsalves. Ekta refuses to buy his yarn and writes to Anthony [on a fictitious address given to her by Gopal], asking him to visit her.

Gopal convinces his junior at work, Laxman [Shreyas Talpade], to pretend to be Anthony. Everything goes according to plan till the real Anthony turns up.

If that isn't complication enough for Gopal, a dead body is discovered at the location where he had saved Meera. The Investigating Officer, Madhav [Arshad Warsi], who is Esha's boyfriend and also who cannot stand the sight of Gopal, learns that the latter had been missing from home that eventful night and begins checking on him.

A sequel carries the baggage of humungous expectations. And you definitely expect GOLMAAL RETURNS to be a step forward. The makers had thundered, "GOLMAAL RETURNS is bigger, it's better" and that raises the bar. But the film is such a put off.

Writer Yunus Sajawal takes an interesting premise, but instead of upgrading it, only downgrades it with lacklustre situations. The writing is so weak, so lifeless that after a point you sit motionless, looking at the goings-on mechanically, instead of being a participant.

A few sequences do entertain you, but they're few and far between. Not enough to camouflage the defects. In view of the fact that the writing is so weak, there's not much that director Rohit Shetty can do to save the ship from sinking. However, the dialogues are howlarious. Music is not as inspiring. 'Tha Karke' is the best track, while 'Tu Saala' [well promoted] isn't there in the film and 'Meow' comes during the end credits. And you're exasperated by then!

GOLMAAL RETURNS belongs to Tusshar Kapoor and Shreyas Talpade. Tusshar is terrific yet again, the real scene stealer, while Shreyas displays his comic side very well. Both, in fact, provide respite to the viewer. Ajay Devgan is likable. Kareena does the suspicious wife act well. Celina stays on your mind even after the show is over.

Arshad Warsi is relegated to the backseat. Amrita Arora is strictly okay. Anjana Sukhani gets no scope. Vrajesh Hirjee is alright. Sharat Saxena, Rakhi Vijan, Sanjay Mishra, Murli Sharma, Mukesh Tiwari and Ashwini Kalsekar fill in the blanks.

On the whole, there's tremendous curiosity to watch GOLMAAL RETURNS and the terrific promotion has only enhanced the excitement. But the film is a major letdown in terms of content. Barring a few jokes and gags, this GOLMAAL pales when compared to its first part. At the box-office, expect a terrific start for the film, but GOLMAAL RETURNS lacks the power to stand on its feet after the initial euphoria settles down.

Celina, Amrita and Anjana sidelined

It is yet another case of people being unhappy over a movie’s promotional campaign.

In the publicity of “Golmaal Returns”, only Kareena Kapoor is being given importance while the other three heroines – Celina Jaitley, Amrita Arora and Anjana Sukhani – have been completely sidelined.

Apparently, the three leading ladies are very unhappy that the producers of the film, Shree Ashtvinayak Cinevisions, have not given them their share of publicity.

But they refuse to speak up in the open and voice their anger as they are all aware that Kareena is the boss, and she sells too!

Salman shoots another promotional video for HELLO

If doing a guest appearance in HELLO was not good enough for Salman Khan, he is continuing to do favors for his brother–in–law Atul Agnihotri. Now he has gone ahead and shot an exclusive promotional music video for HELLO that has just arrived on the music channels.

Accompanied by Sharman Joshi, Esha Kopphikar, Gul Panag and Amrita Arora, Salman Khan jigs to the remix version of the title song 'Hello' (composed by Sajid–Wajid) that involves some extensive SFX as well. A dance number which actually is the best of the lot in the film's entire soundtrack, Salman clearly seems to be enjoying his stint, especially so when he goes topless yet again with just a jeans in tow.

As a follow up to 'Bang Bang', a dance number which featured Salman Khan at the center stage, 'Hello' makes for a much hip and contemporary viewing and manages to attract some eyeballs. Now the need of the situation is an extensive promotion in days to come as the film's release is just round the corner i.e. 10th October.

Wooing the parents

Though Amrita Arora and current squeeze Shakeel Ladak have been making arm-in-arm appearances at various dos around town, all's not well on the home front.

It is believed that Amrita's family are less than thrilled about Amrita flaunting her association with him, so soon after her split with Usman Afzal.

Says a source, "Amrita's dad (Anil) and mom (Joyce) are very concerned about the number of boyfriends their beti has dated in the last six years. The simple-minded folks adore their daughters and have given them ample freedom to live life on their own terms but they are now getting concerned about their younger daughter's ways. The Aroras are pleased that Malaika is well settled; they want Amu to do the same.

They were shocked when barely a few weeks after her split from cricketer boyfriend Usman, Amrita (27) began dating 23-year-old Shakeel Ladak, director of administration with the construction company Red Stone Group."

The parents disapprove of Amrita dating a much younger Shakeel. "He is five years younger than Amu! And the family (especially Joyce) was very fond of Usman. The actress' parents were in London, in May and had met Usman's family. Both families were expecting the couple to get engaged when they suddenly split up.

concerned about amu: Amrita and Malaika with their parents, Anil and Joyce Arora
Since the decision to split was Amrita's idea, her family was upset with her for some time. Now they've told her that she can date Shakeel, but have asked her to refrain from talking about him to the media."

The source adds, "When Amrita went to shoot for Kambakht Ishq in Los Angeles in July, Joyce was supposed to accompany Malaika and Arbaaz Khan to LA for a few days but when she heard Shakeel was also planning a visit, she opted out. Joyce is still very fond of Usman, who doesn't want to meet Amrita's new guy.

There were major fights in the Arora household soon after she outed her new boyfriend but now things are cooling down and Amrita's parents are trying to accept Shakeel, who is also trying his hardest by wooing them with gifts. The new couple was holidaying in Dubai and will return today."

Though Amrita Arora remained unavailable for comment, a source close to her maintains, " It's not true that Amrita's parents disapprove of Shakeel. On the contrary they are fond of him. Her mother was not supposed to go to LA. They have met Shakeel many times. In fact, Amu's mom and Shakeel often party together."

Moral Police goes skirt-chasing with Mallika, Bollywood reacts

Shilpa Shetty: "I'm just happy that the obscenity case against my dress in Tamil Nadu is quashed. I won.”

Malaika Arora: "I think Mallika has become a favourite punching-bag in the press. Leave the girl alone. It's ridiculous. Maybe the moral police in the South should take a closer look at their own films for obscenity.”

Rahul Khanna: "I feel quite sad for the moral police. Perhaps they're jealous of Mallika's legs. They seem to have a lot of free time on hand? Why not use it for issues more important than length of skirts?”

Hema Malini: "I was there in Chennai. Mallika's dress was looking good. She too was looking very good. But perhaps the dress was a little too short for the occasion. Who knows!”

Sonu Sood : "Some people have all the time in the world to measure dress lengths. Good for them. At least moral policing keeps some people busy. At the same time, I feel some celebrities dress a certain way to attract attention and create controversies. Ignore them. It will avoid unnecessary publicity.

Rohit Roy: "What can one say…I'd love to know what the moral police was doing looking at Ms Sherawat's crossed legs? Maybe waiting for them to uncross???”

Amrita Arora: "It's ridiculous. What's wrong with wearing a short skirt? And why only target Mallika for it? Girls in colleges and work places across the country are wearing them. Go get all of them, you moral cops! By the way there're much more serious things to be done in our country than 'skirt-chasing'.”

Niharika Singh: "I think this is complete hypocrisy. Films down south have a lot more skin show. There's no need to make a mountain out of a molehill.”

Sophie Chodhry: "I think the reaction to Mallika's skirt is ridiculous. According to me the outfit is definitely not vulgar or offensive. Surely there're a hundred other issues in our country to get upset about. Leave Mallika and her clothes alone.”

Dia Mirza: "I think they've no right to comment on Mallika. I think they should instead give attention to the sleaze content in some of their films. Stop pointing fingers at someone just because you've nothing better to do.”

Lilette Dubey: "Who's this self-appointed brigade? And what are they afraid of? Influencing the youth of this country? A generation that's now exposed to cinema, fashion and images from around the world right there in their homes? It's up to the individual to decide what she wears and if she can handle the public gaze then it's her prerogative to dress the way she wants.”

Priyanka (Nisha) Kothari: "I think the moral police are more publicity crazy than any other section of our society.”

Samir Soni: "I believe what is moral or immoral is an extremely personal decision. No group of people has the right to force their value system on us unless an individual's action inconveniences others or obstructs someone's fundamental rights.”

Aryan Vaid: What can one say? This isn't really about protection of any morals but the narrow political interests of a group of people. The laws of the land seem to apply in different measures to different sections of people. There was nothing wrong with Mallika's outfit. But there's a long wrong with these moral terrorist outfits."

Gul Panag: "Why should it be anyone's business what someone wears or doesn't wear? The moral police should close down Khajuraho or dress up the sculpture in 'suitable' clothes before attacking anyone.”

Sandhya Mridul: "With due respect the actresses down South wear clothes that seem pretty suggestive and sexy. So what's their problem? The moral police all over the country should keep tabs on real moral issues rather than the clothes actress' wear. Incidentally, why are only actresses pulled up for extra-censoring? Why not the males who nowadays pose in less than women?"

Pooja Bedi: "I think the more importance the media gives such people the more such cases we'll see. The quickest route to fame is to sue celebrities. Morality is so subjective. Do these moralists want to take us back to the days of the purdah? And should their standards of morality be applicable to society? Was there a dress code at the music event? If not how could they expect a girl with a glamorous sexy image to land up in a salwar-kameez?

Nandana Sen: “It's absurd! Mallika is beautiful and has a style of her own .How can anyone have the right to say that style is wrong? Should we all start wearing uniforms now to make everyone happy? Clothes are one of the ways in which a person expresses her or his individuality. Dictating what another individual wears is as ridiculous as a third party forbidding you, a writer, from choosing certain topics. Or me, an actor, from taking on certain roles. And if I decide to do what I choose, should my nose and ear be cut as happened today? What's the issue with Mallika's clothes? If the concern is protecting women's dignity, why don't we create a safe and protective environment so that little girls aren't thrown into fires for stepping beyond boundaries that should never have been set up?

How stars celebrate their Holi-Day

Urmila Matondkar: "I'll be working on Holi-day. So no Holi for me."

Shabana Azmi: "It would be as usual an open house for friends and family for Holi at my parents' home in Janki Kutir. There will be a generous flow of non-toxic colours, gana-bajaana and khana…a long-standing tradition in our house as part of India's ganga-jumna tehzeeb.

Shefali Shah: "My husband Vipul and I will be having a get-together at home. We'll have close friends over. Lots of food, bhang, out-of-tune karaoke, dumb charade…and lots and lots of laughter.

Tusshar Kapoor: "I stopped playing Holi years back. But this year I'll have to attend the Holi bash specially arranged for my new film 123."

Malaika Arora: "I won't be playing Holi this year as I'm holidaying in Dubai"

Nandana Sen: "On Holi day I'll be traveling back from Khajuraho to Mumbai. I'll be coming home just for a day. I'll be sad missing Holi, though. It's my absolute favourite among the Holidays in our calendar.

Manoj Bajpai: "I don't celebrate Holi. I hate being dirty with colour and mud."

Riya Sen: "I'm not sure I'll be playing Holi or not. It'd depend on my mood."

Koena Mitra: "I haven't played Holi during the last few years. This year I might go for a Holi bash being hosted by a dear friend. Since it's inside the house and only close friends are invited it'd be safe. I'll therefore go."

Amrita Arora: "I'll be at home on holi. Who wants to step out?" Celina Jaitley: "I'm shooting on the day before Holi, so no masti. But I'll definitely put gulaal on my buddies

Ravi Kissan: "Arrey bhaiya, making bhang with my own hands and giving it to friends. That's my pleasure for Holi that no one can take away."

Anuraag Sinha: "This is my first Holi right after the release of my first film Black & White. I'm going to freak out with friends and family

Mahesh Bhatt: "22nd March happens to be the day my friend and mentor U.G Krishnamurthy died. I don't play Holi. I'm going to Bangalore to release a book of mine that's been translated into Kannada.

Jiah Khan: "I'm shooting, and I can't play Holi. I'd have loved to get splashed in colour! Holi is one of the most beautiful festivals of our country and it symbolizes our zest for fun.

Aryan Vaid: "I'm not a big fan of Holi I'll be in Pune with friends, considering it's a long weekend.

Kareena, Ajay Devgan… up the temperatures

It was a huge set in Filmistan. Malls, restaurants and fancy salons were made to order to give a very Goan feel to the ambience. Expensive cars and hi-tech mean machines were parked alongside the bricked pavement. Credit of the magnanimity of it all ought to be given to art director Naren Raodekar.

And then appeared the cowgirls – Kareena Kapoor and Amrita Arora – and the cowboys – Ajay Devgan, Arshad Warsi and Shreyas Talpade. While Bebo wore a mini-skirt, white shirt, hat and boots, Amu was more covered.

The song that was being shot was titled Tha Karke , and choreographed by Ganesh Acharya. The music of this film has been composed by Pritam. Director Rohit Shetty informed us, "We are shooting here till March 5. Then we go to South Africa in April to shoot one more song. The film will see a July-August release.

Actor Ajay Devgan was most tense because he had to dance and dancing is just not his cup of tea. But the rest of the cast seemed to be enjoying themselves on the foot tapping number. "This is a dream sequence, it's an imaginary, fantasy song" Amrita informs us.

Bebo on the other hand was looking hot in her micro-mini skirt. Ask her if she is still on her strict diet and she says, "No, I've been eating everything. But I do workout still."

The happiest of the lot however, was Shreyas Talpade who seems to have got along with the 'gang' pretty well. "It's a fun atmosphere. I'm lucky to have bagged this entertainer."

It was one hot day at Filmcity, and we returned to write this piece tha karke .

Happy Birthday Preity Zinta!

Preity Zinta shared her birthday on January 31 with Amrita Arora. Preity was also the surprise guest at Amrita's theme party on the night of Jan 30. The two Aquarian girls even cut a cake together.

Says Preity, "Amrita is a really sweet girl and she has been inviting me every year in order to celebrate our birthday together. This year I said I had to go. Besides it was a theme party…wigs and hats. And I love hats. I am a very hat person. So I went in one of my favourite hats. Thank God I didn't wear the big blonde wig as I was planning to. Because the whole industry was there. How would I've looked?"

The fun-loving Aquarian side to Preity remains predominant. "All us Aquarians are gregarious and hassle-free. Maybe Abhishek, Urmila, Amrita, and I can have a collective birthday party next year. We are all chatterboxes. But I'm now learning to listen more carefully." Preity remains intact although she's now, in her own words, a better listener. "I have to be. I'm in all these board meetings for my cricket deal. And there I better shut up and listen. There's so much to learn."

Preity was in fact in a series of meetings on the eve of her birthday. "But on my birthday I've just decided to chill out. I'm at home watching a DVD, relaxing sleeping. Last year was a sad birthday for me. My dog had died. This year I've lots to look forward to. And I'm happy. The only thing that irritates me is the constant reference to my age from media persons."

Shahid & Amrita make a great pair on-screen, Kareena

Kareena has enough faith on her boyfriend Shahid Kapoor, so that she doesn't feel insecure seeing Shahid romancing with pretty Amrita Rao on screen. Shahid and Amrita star together in Sooraj Barjatya's forthcoming ‘Vivaah'; and there's rumour that the rocking chemistry between Shahid and Amrita is not going down well with Kareena. But the real situation is something different. Far from the rumours, Kareena, who recently watched the film, is so floored by Shahid-Amrita's on-screen chemistry that she can't just stop raving them. “Shahid and Amrita are lovely together. They make a great pair on-screen; you have to see it to believe it,” said Kareena with sheer happiness in her eyes. Great acting, right!
